Steven when you leave and you get your discharge book no matter when you leave whether its at the 6,9,12 or 22 year point, you do not have to leave at 22 either if you get long service list go as a Recruiter or get commissioned you can stay in longer.

However for the purpose of answering your question, when you leave at 22, the last 6 months of your service will be a resettlement course and you can take a course of your choice, truck (HGV) driver, carpentry, and lots of other types of courses, you can also join MOD Police, or most Police forces like to take Ex Soldiers, one person I knew in Chester had 22 years Army and he joined Chester Police as a Policeman, I think he was Sgt within 2 years. But during the time you are in, take as much varied courses as you can, Signals, Mortars, Assualt Pioneer, put your name in for every course you can take, also after 12 years you might want to consider moving from Infantry to a Corps, Logistics where you might get more courses setting you up for civvy street.

Bottom line is when they discharge you and you get the sheets with CODOT numbers equating what you did in army to civvy street, for Infantryman there is like only 3 (might be more now) and that is labrourer general, garage attendant, and if you reached JNCO it go's up to including Police, Fire and Ambulance (take as many first aid medic courses too)
