A childhood friend of mine has a six year old daughter who my family picks up from preschool 5 days a week and we bring her home until her mother picks her up. I have a 2 year old son. Let me say that I am not close with her mother at all. Her mother and my mother are best friends. The 6 y/o is sick ALL THE TIME. And has been for YEARS. It is obvious her mother could care less about her, the child bathes herself once a week and dresses herself. I live in Mass. and it is typical that she doesn't even wear a coat, hat, or mittens. Last year she got my son sick and he had pnemonia for 2 weeks. Then we didn't watch her for about 7 months. She was here on Christmas and she could HARDLY BREATHE. Her eyes were literally swollen shut. My son was already on antibiotics for an ear infection and now he is very ill, probably pneumonia again. My mother called her and left her a msg saying we could not watch her anymore. Is there anything else I should do in this situation?

If I call child services, what's going to happen to her? I know her grandmother very well who is seriously concerned and would be willing to take in the child at anytime night or day. Would she be able to go to her house? And about the school situation, she has switched pre-schools like 3 times. And I know in October they asked for her immunization record, but other than that I don't know if they have done anything else. They obviously must notice that she's not dressed for the weather and has not bathed.

Call 1-800 4 A CHILD and report this - obviously the mother needs counseling and the child is in desperate need of medical care. It may mean that they take the child into foster care for a small time but both will benefit as the mother will have to take parenting classes and the child will be properly cared for. I am saddened that the school did not report this, as they should have and are required to by law. Do the child and her mother a favor - call and get them both the help they need. Be brave and good luck!!

Call the DCS (dept childrens services) If the grandmother tells them shes willing to take the child then they will let her, otherwise she will go to foster care, but from what it sounds like she'd be better off in foster care than with her mother...

first of all buy the poor kid a coat and some gloves, have your mom call the babys mother and tell her she is concerned about the health of the child and think that she needs to start taking better care of her, it wouldnt hurt to call child protective services and have them do a home study for the child, never regret not doing something if it reguards a child,

If you think the child is not being properly taken care of, you should report it to the authorities. Maybe the authorities need to step in and see what's happening.

well it sounds like her mother dose not care for this child to well perhaps suggest a nanny and she should take her to a Doctor once a month if she gets sick that much.
hope that helps!

I agree---you need to call Child Services---neglect is against the law.

Please let us know what you do.

Good Luck

Call your local DSS. Something needs to be done for that poor girl. That's so sad!
