If you were to pray to Kali what would it be for? Is she ALWAYS a violent force, does she have a benevolent side?

Jeez, you can't ask one bloody question about religion without somebody pouncing on your a*s in here! I'm not converting to Hinduism already I just wanted to know, FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES, somebody mentioned her on TV and I didn't get it, tried wiki and it was WAY too complicted. Why don't YOU talk to some counsellor about your low self esteem issues and how it compells you to try and be a smartass all the time and never get laid.

Well, you've pretty much answered your question; Kali is one of the manifestations of Shiva's wife Parvati. In Hindu mythology, Parvati has taken on different forms depending on the role she was to play; if she needed to destroy demons, she took on the fearsome form of Kali who feasts on the blood of her foes. When she takes on this form, she is said to have unnerved all the other gods including her own husband Shiva.
So I guess, if you wanted serenity and tranquility, you would pray to the form of Parvati and if you were out to kick butt, a vision of Kali in your mind would definitely help.

kali is a feminist, reknowned for subjugation of already heartbroken Lord Shiva husband and consort of the Goddess Parvati. S left wife wife P, and was seduced by Kali, a staunch feminist and a bit of a run around trollop.
The absurdity was that P was a beautiful, powerful goddess. K envied the hugely gifted goddess P, and styled herself upon the much adored and worshipped . When she gained P's husbands attentions, this further emboldened her, she emabrked upon a campaign of slander, and thus P was defamed and scandalised, whilst Kali took upon herself P's attributes until the real goddess in disrepute, became a solitary recluse, held captive by K's henchmenm who gained absolute power and domination by the acrruing of the spirit, mind and company of Goddess P
However all have their own interpretations, as you will find if you study the topic. Anyway the wannabee Kali is famous and worshiped, whilst the real Mother Goddess remains virtually unknown, having become a page in the history book chapter on K, the Monica Lewinsky of her time.

From what I've heard Kali (Kali-ma) is the keeper of the dead, she cares for the bodies of the dead, that's why she has a negative rep cuz she is often depicted as wearing a necklace of skulls, on a throne of bones. But I don't think she was supposed to be evil, just misinterpreted.

Yes, Kali has several aspects. In Kali-Ma - she is vengeful and violent. In other aspects, she is seen as a strong, feminine aspect that is a protector. You could pray to her in any of the aspects. You'll have to do a Wikipedia or Google search on them though, sorry.
