Maybe he just made a mistake...let him know what size you really wear.

I guess at peoples sizes all of the time and i am wrong 75% of the time lol
I can't even tell the difference between a size 4 and a size 6!
Have you tried the dress on?
Mabye it is a very small cut dress and a size 18 fits like a regular size 16 and then i would think it is reasonable to be off by 2 sizes when guessing
plus, you can just thank him for the present but inform him that it doesn't fit properly and you are going to exchange/return it
then make a list of all of your sizes and give it to him for future reference

He probably used a woman in the store about your size to gauge what size you might be. (I used to work at a clothing store, and men would ask me timidly all the time what size I was, stating that I was about the same shape as their wife lol). Unfortunately, the person he used might have been shorter/taller/had more boobs. Its best to try it on in front of him, then go with him to the store to exchange it so his feelings arent hurt and he can help pick the new dress.

He likes BBWs and he wants you to growww...by next year he'll be buying you 28s lol.
Actually guy's clothes are made to fit baggier so to him it probably looked like the right size. It's hard to buy women's clothes if you don't have a lot of experience with them because they aren't sized with measurments like men's clothes (ie 38 is 38", etc) plus there are differences between juniors, misses, women's, plus variations from brand to brand. Just tell him you want jewelry or shoes or purses or electronics or something next time - much easier on the male brain.

I think you are reading waaaay to much into this. I am sure it was an honest mistake. Men by clothes in "their" sizes. They don't have 6,7,8-18 sizes etc. I am sure it was a mistake. Look at the bright side, he did give you a gift. Be grateful for that.

It would have been more polite to ask you what size you wear first before the giver gave you the wrong size.

LOL my husband and I had to come to an agreement that he WOULDN"T buy me clothes unless I was there to pick them out.
He would get me like, x-large shirts and I wear a medium (he thought I liked baggy stuff) and size 5 pants (I wear a 9, but he thought I liked tight stuff..)
He's probably just bad at guesstimating... Tell him your sizes, or ask him to consult you first next time. Make sure you tell him that it's ok, everyone makes mistakes, because their feelings get hurt EASILY!!
Good luck!

Women's clothing sizes aren't directly tied to actual measurements like men's clothing sizes are. In addition, they vary from clothing line to clothing line. I think he just made a bad guess.
