I don't know where you get the idea that Islam and the Qu'ran aren't important in her eyes. She could very well be unaware that some Muslims prefer that transliteration, and you had an opportunity there to politely speak up and let her know the preferred spelling.

But I think that not capitalizing the name of a sacred book would be far more offensive than someone writing "Koran" instead of "Qu'ran." You, my dear, should be ashamed of yourself.

When writing a word that is native to one alphabet in a completely different alphabet, there are various ways of spelling phonetically. Koran/Qu'ran and Muslim/Moslem are just two of the examples. There are several ways of spelling "Chanukkah," for example.

What do you know about Islam to say that it is a scared religion and Koran isn't important .
Surely your government and TV wash your brain like many another people.
I invite you to enter to an Islamic site(Islam-Islamonline) to see the real Islam not the lies about Islam.

I don't think that anyone should be offended by religion. It is you OWN PERSONAL belief. Why should you be offended by someone else's judgement than your own? Stand up for yourself, but of course you can't make everyone else in the world think the way you do. That is just naive. Yet again, look at our history, it is based on spreading religion, and our wars and conflicts now are based on religion. As an atheist, I think religion is well..................... not good.

Most people in the US still spell it Koran, as that is how it has been spelled for a long time. People are just getting around to spelling it Quran. Doesn't mean anything, though, and is not disrespectful.

No. "Quran" and "Koran" are both phonetic interpretations. The actual name isn't written in our alphabet, and those are merely attempts to show English-speakers how the word is pronounced. "Coran" and "Kurann" would also be possible, though I doubt anybody would recognize them.

If you demand absolute perfection, it should only be written in Arabic, and you should learn to pronounce it exactly as a native speaker would, with no trace of an accent.

Wikepedia says

The Qur’ān [1] (Arabic: القرآن al-qur'ān, literally "the recitation"; also sometimes transliterated as Qur'an, Koran, or Al-Qur'an) is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe the Qur'an to be the book of divine guidance and direction for mankind

My Jewish friends have always spelled it as Koran. I would take that to mean that it's as appropriate as Qu'ran.

Don't get so uptight. An honest mistake perhaps, then again look at what it says in the dictionary.

From www.dictionary.com

Ko·ran /kəˈrɑn, -ˈræn, kɔ-, koʊ-/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kuh-rahn, -ran, kaw-, koh-] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun the sacred text of Islam, divided into 114 chapters, or suras: revered as the word of God, dictated to Muhammad by the archangel Gabriel, and accepted as the foundation of Islamic law, religion, culture, and politics.

Also, Quran.
