Even though I am strong in my beliefs, I respect people of other faiths and those of no faith. Why can't more people just agree to disagree?

I didn't say we need to agree if we think they are wrong, but what purpose does it serve to argue and fight with people we don't agree with? That is why I say "agree to disagree". You will never make everyone believe the way you do, so why fight about it?

Flandarg, I am not "dim" but it seems you are missing the whole point. What I feel it means is people of different beliefs are NEVER going to agree on theology, so rather than fight and argue why not just live and let live. You can believe in Christ, (as do I) let Muslims believe in Islam, and Wiccan and Pagen have their beliefs too. I am not against witnessing, and have had many very good theological discussions with a Wiccan friend of mine, but you can' win people by force or argument. As far as public school teaching homosexuality as an acceptable alternative lifestyle, in public school they teach socially popular ideas and it is up to parents to spiritually guide our children.

Oddball, I must respectfully disagree with you. Not all Christians live and let live. Many will try to force the gospel onto other people, and many will tell other Christians that they are not saved because they go to other churches. The greatest threat to Christianity is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and deny him by their lifestyle. This is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

Mara,
I do not know. I also choose to believe yet I also feel that others are welcome to their own beliefs and I never try to convert them to my "way of thinking". Have a wonderful week and a great New Years!
Thanks,

A lot of people do, but those are not the kinds of people who come to this place to argue their side.

It is, fortunately, not really as bad out there as it is here, in terms of not getting along. As to why we don't get along here, I know some people come here for the express purpose of arguing and attempting to foist their veiws on others, sometimes with the notion in mind that it is for their own good, sometimes to make themsleves feel more important or smarter.

The discussions we have here are about the ultimate, eternity or not, life after death or not, etc, and people get really stubborn about their positions. I think that when a person says he believes in a life after death faith based scenario, it is very difficult for him to hear that someone disagrees, because to him, that means either that person is going to hell (in his mind) and he needs to save that person, OR that person is maybe possibly right, which means that he, the believer, is possibly maybe wrong, and his faith based beliefs won't stand for that, they are threatened by this possibility, and the other person's position must be argued against, disproven, shunned.

Me, I don't care what anyone believes, as long as they don't try to convert me or bore me with speeches. Live and let live. I am happy and strong in my beliefs too, and I believe that all truth is ultimately one truth.

Blessings and peace,
Lady Morgana )0(

Whoever coined the term "agree to disagree" must be quite dim; I know you didn't coin that term.

As it relates to religion, consider the Hindu and Muslim in relation to the eating of beef. Just who will agree to disagree with whom on this issue? By-the-way, I'm a Christian.

So, the Holy Bible tells me that homosexuality is a sin. Just HOW do I agree to disagree with those who insist in teaching my 9-year-old son in public school that homosexuality is right?

It seems most people see beliefs other than their own as threatening - perhaps on one hand because they intuitively lack real confidence in beliefs for which they have no arguable evidence and have merely adopted thoughtlessly like parrots - and on the other hand they resist having the dogmatic beliefs of others, and their implications, thrust upon them (e.g. the abortion debate, and others)? There's no virtue in tolerating intolerable intrusions on one's personal space. But disagreement need not be violent debate unless pursued mindlessly - which it usually is! It's all in the mind, of course, but those who believe "religiously" find that too alarming to confront. Atheists generally don't, because they are more devoted to exploring new ideas.

As another Christian I must disagree with you. . .

Christians are living and letting peope live. Others are living and not not letting Christians live. But far more important than that is what happens to someone when they no longer live. . .

Agree!

Because there are always "believers" and "non-believers" who want to get laws passed which will favor only their own beliefs(even if they are atheists).

Most people can agree to disagree. It is the lovely people that feel they have the duty to remind me that I am worthy of eternal damnation that ruin everything. When I hear that line I feel perfectly justified in telling them they are a pinhead.

I'm game. If we do away with Pascal's Wager and people telling me I'm going to hell because I don't believe in their deity - we're cool. I like religions and respect people who walk true in their path.

did Jesus just agree ...with the World ?

I think NOT

THERE IS A ABSOLUTE TRUTH
and there is a absolute RIGHT
and an ABSOLUTE WRONG

AND JUST AGREEING WITH SOMONE WHO IS WRONG OR IN SIN>>>MAKES YOU A PARTAKER OF THIER SIN AND WRONG BY AGREEMENT

and if this is the case i say open ALL prison doors and allow ALL prisoners out.........that makes as much sense as you saying JUST AGREE with everyone else...even tho its wrong !!!

YOU NEED TO READ THE BIBLE
and it is Written
""When i say unto the wicked ,Thou shalt surely die ,and thou givest him not warning , nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way , to save his life ' the same wicked man shall die in his iniguity ; but his blood will i require at thine hand . ""
""Yet if thou warn the wicked , and he turn not from his wickedness , nor from his wicked way , he shall die in his iniguity ; but thou has delieverd thy soul . ""

Think that in itself is ALL that needs said !!!!!!
