I have had several different answers so i'm not sure but my stepson leaves with his mom and he wants to leave with us. How old does he have to be in the state of texas?

my step son is 10 will be 11 in july he lives in maryland with his mom but now wants to live with his dad and i in texas. How old does he have to be before the judge will here him?

From my understanding, if there is a custody order, that order is in place until the child is 18, or until the non-custodial parent files a petition to change the custody order. The child never gets to just decide where he wants to live, though I believe if there are court proceedings, he can have say if the court says he's old enough to speak up for himself.
