My first child is almost one year old and I am working on transitioning her to a sippy cup and also onto taking more solids and less formula. We're switching to organic cow's milk once we have worked on this current transition!
I don't know if I am feeding her correctly. She's quite picky and sometimes eats a ton, othertimes eating like a little bird. I have no idea if this is too mjuch or too little. Please tell me what you think:
One 8 ounce bottle around 6am (she usually takes about 6 oz)
Breakfast at 8 (usually baby oatmeal and banana or wholewheat pancakes and fruit)
A small snack (usually wheat toast with a topping like cheese or hummus)
Lunch (veggies and some protein)
Bottle around 12:30 (around 8 oz)
Small snack (yogurt or crackers), mid afternoon
Dinner around 5:30 - whatever we're having
Bottle at 7:00 (6-8 oz)
-She also take sips of water whenever she wants although she refuses formula from a sippy cup. She's not liking it at all!
Thanks for any advice!

Seems like a pretty healthy diet, maybe adding a little more fruit would be good. As for the sippy cup transition...have you tried the Nuby cups? They are almost still a bottle and make the transition pretty easy. Once she gets the hang of the Nuby cup then you can start giving her a "regular" sippy cup.

Good luck!!

P.S. You can get the Nuby cups at Wal*Mart, Meijer, Target...just about anywhere really.

Sounds like a great diet to me, you are teaching her well. I especially like that you serve her the same dinner that the family eats. That will widen the variety of her palate. I wouldn't worry too much about the formula in the sippy cup. Once a small child is in a habit, like formula in a bottle, it can be very difficult to change. When you begin her on whole milk just make sure you always serve that in a sippy to her. I would only put a sip or two in it at a time to avoid waste. As she gets used to it she'll ask for more.
Don't fret though, your doing a great job teaching her the healthy way to feed her body. Not snacking on junk and chips.
Good job mom!

Sounds good, just mix it up once and a while so she doesn't get bored with the food. And water in a sippy cup is great for a drink, even half fruit juice and half water is great. My son is a grazer he eats little bits all day long and somedays eats nothing at all and other days he eats a ton. For some reason kids do this, they make up for it though, and I find that if you offer new foods and different presentation they stay interested. I got some mutivitamins (chewable) for the days when he wouldn't eat. Good Luck!

To get her to sip formula from a sippie cup.. dont offer her any food or dring until around 8. and start with a sippie cup of formula. Continue to reoffer same cup every 30 mins.

When she gets hungry enough she will sip.

I did this.

My son was bottle broke in one day by 10:30am..LOL..
(to the sippie cup)

It sounds like she is eating good. Kids tend to graze because their tummies are so small. as far as the sippy cup offer it to her through out the day and praise her when she uses it. Once she can use it, take away the bottles. She'll protest for a day or two at the most but she won't go thirsty. All of my kids were using a sippy cup exclusivly at a year but I intoduced the sippy cup at 6mos so they had time to get used to it.

Seems like a pretty healthy diet to me. My daughter is almost 3 years old and she varies from day to day in the amounts she eats. Some days she doesn't stop eating and other days barely eats. She growing, healthy, smart, and goes poo-poo regularly. Good job, mom!
