Is there any possible way to help make my dog's breath smell better without doing any inhumane things to him? I know products that are suitable for humans, but would not dare to try it on my dog unless I knew it was safe. Can anyone be nice and help out?

There are supplements (specifically for dogs) you can buy and give them to your dog. Most contain charcoal as the active ingredient.

It is safe, it does work. They sell it at any major pet store, like PetSmart or Petco.

Here's an example, called Pleasant Breath by NaturVet: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752034&cp=2767032.2767164&view=all&fbx=0&fbn=Taxonomy%7CDental&f=Taxonomy%2FPET%2F2767164&fbc=1&parentPage=family&keepsr=1

Also, here's a really good article. There are lots of things we all do that can contribute to bad breath, like free feeding. (who knew?)

There is dog toothpaste and products you can put in the water. There is even food that will help like Science Diet t/d. Best thing would be to have his teeth cleaned at the vets. A few diseases such as kidney disease can cause bad breath too.

Brush his teeth regularly.

Switch to a premium DRY food.

There are doggy breath mints on the market, available at any pet supply store.

There are also plaque sprays available.

Try dental treats and durable rubber toys for her to chew on.

Well, I have something called YipYap, they're breath mints for dogs. I got some at PetsMart. It works for my dog. She thinks its a dog treat.

You can also brush his teeth 3 times a week. That's what my mom does with her cocker spaniels.

Brush your dogs teeth it will help him live longer..
Here's a website on how:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/teeth.htm

Make sure you use a doggy tooth brush and doggy toothpaste here's a bunch of them:
http://www.petco.com/Shop/SearchResults.aspx?Nav=1&N=0&Ntt=toothpaste

Should be done at least once a week.
Never use human toothpaste, b/c it will make them sick from swallowing it.

Also if you're dog's breath is really bad you may consider having them proffesionally cleaned at your vet, b/c they may be rotting away in your dog's mouth from not brushing.

GOOD LUCK & HAPPY BRUSHING

Have a dental exam at the vet, brush his/her teeth and possibly re-evaluate what you are feeding.
