unless you have sensitivity or some weird reaction between the paste and the cement hold your braces on...No.

Here's a secret: "whitening" toothpaste is a bit of a joke. Oh, they may have alittle peroxide in there, but ANY toothpaste that removes superficial stains (and most do) will whiten a little but not as much as a good cleaning does at the dentists and CERTIANLY not as dramatically as if you get whitestrips or a bleachtray at the dental office.

So you're fine. Don't buy the hype. DO floss like crazy! braces are dirty trick we dentists play on teenagers..."Hm, let's find the time in life when they have the least inclination to take care of teeth and drink a boatload of coke and mountain dew...hmmm."
seriously. floss a lot; it's a shame to see kids get braces off and they have nice straight teeth that need a ton of filligns. brushing's good too, but ther'es NO SUBSTITUTE for floss, and you have to use that threader doohickey, ok!?

good luck and take care!

My orthodontist said that I could, but I really don't want stains. Yes, I should trust him, but I have to have my doubts somewhere. I would skip the extra whitening power, because my orthodontist said as long as it is nothing too powerful than I would be fine.

Also, just make sure you are flossing and brushing after every meal (or the best you can) as well as using a moutwash. Flossing eliminates the stains in between your teeth, which tones down the coloring of your teeth.

My orthodontics told me I could use any kind of toothpaste. I would not use anything too strong because the arm and hammer toothpaste irritated my gums after I got braces. I always use Crest whitening toothpaste with scope and it does a good job.
