I highly doubt it unless both names were on the card. They can try to take legal action, but I doubt they will really get anywhere. Most credit cards and loans have a clause that say that the debt will be canceled if they die.

Yes and no. Usually a debt dies with the debtor. Credit card companies may try to collect any outstanding balances from the deceased's estate.
However, if you live in a community property state, all debts and assets are equally shared between the husband and the wife.

All card companies have the clause in their rule book(fine print) that on death of the debtor the debt is waived. I dont think the spouse needs to worry. Check out the fine print of the card company.

If your husband leaves anything (aka assets), then there is money to pay the credit cards. This is true even if it's his half of the house.

Yes if your name is also on the card otherwise it is paid through the estate. If you are the executor (of the estate) it will be your job to pay it before the estate can close.
