I run a chihuahua group online and own a male chi. When a male chi's mate, shortly after a while, will start marking, ALOT. My dog is now marking everything, couches, coats, shoes, table legs. Good news, is that dogs dont like peeing on themselves, so go to the store and buy him an extra small or depending on his size, small, doggie diaper. Some are made of plastic and they cover their bottom half descretely. Then, yes, you have to do this, you go to the store and buy femenine maxi pads, thin ones, cut them in half and insert it in the plastic diaper. Everytime your dog pee's on something, the pad will absorb the pee and when the dog feels wet, he will stop doing it. You will have to change the pad alot and keep up on him every time. He will stop in about 3 weeks of you being diligent about it. Its all about training and if you give up, your dog will still pee on everything. Congrats on saving the dogs life. Its hard to find a family that will committ to owning a previously owned dog.
P.S. your dog is submitting to you when you say "no". You can obviously tell he was abused. Instead of saying "no", try rewarding your dog with a tiny little treat every time he goes to the door and goes potty. Even if he just lifts his leg outside, a treat is a good response and lots of praise. Chi's are easy to potty train and love routine-routine-routine, and he wont get fat on tiny treats.

ignore the first one....you can buy pheromone sprays to attract dogs to particular spot outside the house..it's kind of like catnip for cats......does he mark where your ***** has peed in the garden? did your ***** ever have any accidents in the house? he may well be able to smell old urine that you can't. even if you've scrubbed the carpet....he will still be able to smell it........
don't react when he pees..i know it's hard but just ignore it...pick a scent part of your garden that you can spray the pheremone onto and take him out there on the hour every hour during the day and till last thing at night. every time he pees or poos outside....give him lots of cuddles and praise and give him an edible treat. you can pick up the tail end of a salami for about a pound at tesco, chop it up very small and use it as a reward so he assosciates going to the loo or marking outside with getting something good. also...let him learn from your *****. if she pees, he'll pee..... if you do this every day for a few weeks it should stop him from marking in the house. if your ***** ever did have an accident then you may well have to get yourself a rug doctor for the day and clean your carpet. at the end of the day if he can smell another dog's wee and she doesn't get told off then he'll not understand why he does.
hope this helps.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/0U29A
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Naty Pants, How would you like me to spank you really hard for going pee? That is no way to treat man's best friend. Positive reinforcement is the key. I hope you never have an animal in your family. I suggest like the person above, Google Cesear Milan the dog whisperer.

Well, like everyone else is saying, the obvious, neuter him. He will mark no matter what if he is intact and you have an intact female.
If he is neutered, try using a belly band. Many toy breeds can never be entirely housetrained, so many use belly bands on the boys to help keep them from marking. Just be sure to take if off when you put him outside.

Hi, you ever hear of Caesar Millan? He is a highly trained professional dong trainer!
He stars on the very popular 'Dog Whisperer' on The National Geographic Channel.
He is truly an inspiration to watch.
Do a Yahoo search or a Google search. See what you find! He has many videos/books that you could learn from!
Good luck with your new puppy!
Happy Holidays!

I would just try to catch him when he's doing it, and take him outside as soon as you can, then if he finishes going potty there praise him, I can understand you not wanting to scare him if he was abused. I have two chihuahuas, and both were hard to potty train, eventually we were able to litter box train them while in the processs of house breaking them...good luck!

Aww!
Well, you'll want to neuter him now before he gets used to marking. I have a friend who has a male chi rescued from similar circumstances- and she reports that Yoda is highly territorial.
Good luck!

the best method i have found success with was crate method.... using either outside or litter box...
put the little feller in a crate only letting it out to pee or go pooh....when you have it out for any other reason watch like a hawk (kind gentle hawk) but do not let him out of sight or reach....
during the potty breaks only let it out long enough to go potty and not play...otherwise it will get the two confused.....it could take several monthes till perfect....mine would learn no other way... and it took several months...
poor little guy..... i wish i could give you better advise... just be patient and it will work out in time...
mine does that flip on the back thing also and quivers... when i correct her....instead of stern rebukes, i use a lot of the cesar millan dog whisperer techniques on my so she is corrected but not threatened.....ssssssssst works everytime for my little girl.....and i hold my hand out like hold or halt....it has become her freeze or stop signal....
and don't shove their face in it...that is abuse as well...how would you have liked your parents to smear your diaper on your face as a baby??????
