someone i know has alterded the amount of a check for 30 dollars more than the amount it was origanly made for. can you be arrested or prosacuted for doing this

Depends on your state...

In my state (Kentucky) if it was written to a business... YES!!!

If it was written person to person you have to take them to small claims court since the amount is under $100 the small claims court judge can decide if it was criminal or not and it would only be a misdemeanor... if over $100 it becomes a felony and they will procescute it regardless.

Yes it call a forged instrument in most states it is a felony
