Expect to be cold, crowded in with thousands, and fenced in and unable to leave once you get there (so make sure you go to the bathroom first). It's chaotic. And an experience like no other. :)

Have fun!

Crowded, probably cold, and you need to be constantly aware so that you don't become a toilet. You wait there forever, because they fence it all in hours beforehand. Then, it takes forever to get out.

Hey, I guess there are plenty of people who like it, though. They do a pretty good job of keeping it safe, too.

Personally, I enjoy watching it at home where it's warm, then laughing at all the people who will still take hours to get home as I just go to sleep. I love this city and midtown Manhattan as much as anyone, but I have never done Times Square on 12/31-1/1, and quite frankly, I have no desire to.

it is really wild. some people take the opportunity to take advantage of out of towners - robberies, assault etc. my female friend got her breasts grabbed by some dirtbag drunkard while she was in the mix of the crowd outside mtv studios when the ball was dropping. alot of drunks are out of control and there's lots of litter. Most people I know say they had a better time at a party than they did in the mix outside in the cold while the ball was dropping. The traffic is another story. You will likely spend more time in traffic than you will enjoying the event, imo. Go once for the experience though, i guess. i find nyc to be a great place normally but during NYE some folks act out of turn. just be aware of what is going on around you, use your common sense.

Dunno, I'm 3rd generation NYC. We don't do Times Square, especially New Years Eve. With all the things and parties that nite, why would you want to stand packed in with thousands, half of them drunk and freeze?
