I don't know for sure, but it seems like you do. I had a friend who went to Canada a few years ago on vacation and I asked her if she needed a passport thinking it was a stupid question and she said she did. A lot of the laws changed after 9-11. You may want to call your local passport office to make sure. It's better to be safe than sorry. Passports may only apply to flying, though. I don't know. My friend fly into Vancouver.

The new passport requirements have been postponed again. It's just awaiting Bush's signature (which is expected): http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2004085032_webpassports20.html
You should be fine with just your drivers license and birth certificate.

I believe there is a new regulation that you need a passport to get back into the states. I would take one just in case if you have one.

You don't "need" it absolutely to get in, but if you have a passport, take it with you. You never know if you'll end up needing it.
