The top 35 cars in owners points gets locked into each event. For the start of the next season, for the first 5 races, the top 35 in owners points from the previous season gets locked in. You have to be in the top 8 of the go or go home cars(outside top 35) to make the races. That makes it hard for teams outside to qualify, and it makes it darn near impossible to start up a new team to make the races. It gets criticism when they go to Talladega, and the top 8 go or go homers are all 1st-8th. This past october, that happened, and scott riggs who qualified 9th place missed the race. I and most fans believe that the fastest 43 cars should make the race period.

It's a rule that locks the top 35 cars in the points standings into the field for every race and should be abolished. That way the fastest 43 cars will make the field and if you have a bad day qualifying you go home no matter if you are Kenny Wallace or Jeff Gordon.

This locks the top 35 (in points) into the races. The first 5 races of the season uses the points from the final points from the previous year.

ALL drivers in the top 35 automatically quals for the races.

First 5 races of the season are based on the prev. year's owner's pts.

(meaning whoever was the top 35 of last yr will be in the first 5 races the following year)

The top 35-rule is basically for qualifying.

The top 35 in owner points are locked into the race. The rest have to qualify on time.

There are longer and more complicated answers, but I'm sure you'll get (or you've already gotten) those answers.

I just figured you'd like to know the more BASIC answer. :)

Having a car in the nascar is like getting a traffic ticket.
Usually the jerk behinds you because your car is cute.
So the officials made a ruling about behaving wildly in about
1965-1970. The rule is about outside the arena, general
driving actions, and shows, and individual driving skills. The
rule states that no pole, no winning, no entry paid driver is
allowed to desiminate information in the game of racing that
suggests intimidation or threat to the life or automobile of
another driver. No excuses and all fines will be collected.
This rule has done the most of all calls to scare off danger
from hitech and wacky gamblers.
