I got an HD-DVD for Christmas but none of my dvd players can play it. My parent was thinking I could just watch the HD-DVD on the 360 without needing the extra attachment. It says on the DVD's box that it has as a 'special feature' to play under 480i Standard Def. Is there any way I can watch this DVD without buying the extra attachment for the 360?

is it only an hd dvd or is it a double sided one with hd dvd/dvd? If it is only hd dvd, you need an hd dvd player, so, yes, you need the xbox add on.

if i am right, the dvd is actually an HD-DVD, with the burgandy box?
If so you would need to get a HD-DVD Drive sold seperatly from the xbox 360 to play the disc on. i take it the special features on the HDDVD are just recorded on lower resolution to play in the HDDVD Drive, but you would need the HDDVD Drive.

Check if one side is HD and the other SD.
So flip the DVD and see if it works. Or on a PC, check if there is a wmv or other file you can just play.
