To put it Frankly - what's done is done.
How would people accept new translations and scriptures without having to divide into more different religions.
There is a battle going on over everything that someone digs up these days.
Half the people want to include the findings of excavations because they want the change that comes with new information.
The other half want to put the kabosh (sp?) on the findings of excavations because they have it pretty good the way things are.
At the same time - there has been an ongoing 3-way war between education, religion and media. Somewhere between the 3 entities there is a truth - but good luck getting any two people to agree on it.

You mean the original Hebrew and Greek versions? They are readily available. You just have to be able to read Greek and Hebrew... :-)
Or are you talking about other gospels not included in the standard Bible? I'm always interested in seeing more writings like that. That's what is so cool about the Book of Mormon - a whole book of scripture written on the other side of the world from where the Bible was written.

Quesstimation is my favorite word. xD
As far as what you're asking, I saw that a while back also. I don't know which channel it was, but, I don't think the real Bible will ever be published. Ever, never, ever. I wish it would, I can't even imagine the things that were left out, and it would be very interesting to read.

You're talking about the show "Banned From the Bible." There have been scrolls found indicating that there were stories that were rejected from the canon of the Bible. The thing is, there are many versions and many different canons, but all have the same message.

The show you're probably thinking of is Banned from the Bible. It was on the History Channel.
You can read Jewish and Christians writings that didn't make it into the Bible in the following links (along with plenty that did make the cut).

I dont have a Bible on my bookshelves, but I do have a English copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Library. Those are what I consider to be the REAL Bible.

Most likely, it was on the History Channel. They seem to have a fetish for "going beyond the Davinci Code".
The original publication has been copied numerous times in Greek and Hebrew. That's as close as you're going to get to the original.

discovery and history channel are hardly scholarly sources. history international is worse. i'm so tired of every show being about whether or not the bible is true, or whether or not there is additional evidence out there. i once watch a show about ancient rome. all they talked about was how ancient civilization showed the inevitability of the jeese. give me a frakking break. i only watch those shows for the pretty pictures, now.

many of the books the catholics decided to leave out of the bible are now long since lost (as are many other valuable works of classical antiquity). but the gospel of thomas is still with us, and so is most of the gospel of judas, the acts of thekla, and the acts of saint peter.
but christians don't want more to read.
in fact the protestant bible is shorter than it was even a hundred years ago. (protestant bibles used to contain the apocrypha - as catholic bibles still do).
christians are just not that interested in god as such - only in their own slice of him.
and this is particularly true of protestants.

I believe what they found were Gnostic texts that had originally been rejected for inclusion in the bible due to inaccuracy, lies or even heresy.
