Genesis 38:1-10
"At that time Juda went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Odollamite, named Hiras. And he saw there the daughter of a man of Chanaan, called Sue: and taking her to wife, he went in unto her. And she conceived, and bore a son, and called his name Her. And conceiving again, she bore a son, and called him Onan. She bore also a third: whom she called Sela. After whose birth, she ceased to bear any more.
And Juda took a wife for Her his firstborn, whose name was Thamar. And Her, the firstborn of Juda, was wicked in the sight of the Lord: and was slain by him. Juda, therefore said to Onan his son: Go in to thy brother's wife and marry her, that thou mayst raise seed to thy brother. He knowing that the children should not be his, when he went in to his brother's wife, spilled his seed upon the ground, lest children should be born in his brother's name. And therefore the Lord slew him, because he did a detestable thing."
It was a custom of the ancient Hebrews that if a man died his brother would marry his widow. The first son born would be the heir of the dead brother, and take his name so the dead brother's name would not be lost.
The continuance of the family genealogy was very important to them. Onan didn't want to raise up an heir to his brother, so he "spilled his seed" (coitus interruptis) to prevent pregnancy.
This scripture is the basis in traditional Christianity for declaring masturbation and birth control as grave sins, because the man's "seed" is "spilled." These sins are more politely referred to as the "sin of Onan" or "Onanism."

No, possibly that's not interior the Bible, yet i don't sense that it contradicts the Bible, the two. Our God is our Heavenly Father, and has continually existed. We evaluate Him as our Father, and the author of all residing. he's likewise the daddy of Jesus--Jesus himself stated so. Jesus got here to the international with the aid of fact the Savior on the prefer of the daddy to redeem us from sin. I even have in no way seen God to be the rest than the daddy of all residing. isn't that the accepted Christian concept? to understand that God grow to be exalted from a decrease existance purely teaches us what the aptitude for all persons interior the international to realize--eternal glory and happiness. it fairly is Biblical. that's everywhere in the Bible, it fairly is the very objective of the Biblical coaching--that we can attain eternal existence crammed with eternal peace and happiness. Is there some thing incorrect with that concept? if so, i could prefer to understand what's so dark and mysterious approximately that.

This was a parable that Jesus told. During that time, it was customary that when a man died and he has a brother, it was his duty to take the dead brothers wife to care for as his own.
So the question was put to Jesus. If a man dies and his brother takes his wife as his own and that man dies and his other brother takes those wives as his own: when that man dies, and all are in Heaven, to whom are the women wed to in Heaven,
The reply of Jesus gave us a glimpse of Heaven when he said that when in Heaven we have no wives of marriage for we are all like brothers and sisters.

and it just goes to show you how little men thought of women, that they could not decide for themselves if and whom they wanted to marry.
