The first CJ7's had the narrow axles till the early 80s. It was about 6+" shorter and the frames where taller because of the older transfer cases where bigger.
They are a funner Jeep to drive, but you will feel it at the end of the day!

The older jeeps were more narrow and had a higher center of gravity. The newer jeeps are produced to lower the center of gravity making them more safe.

the cjs have a narrower track than the current tj because the axles on a cj are not as wide as the ones under a tj and the tj has coils where the cj doesn't

The newer ones most likely have a lower center of gravity ( more weight lower down). Also new technology in suspension is a factor.

cj's are shorter & not as wide as the tj's are.
