if you think you suck but you really dont then you dont have high self-steem, but if you really suck but people tell you that you are good then they're just being nice to you.

People often have this kind of reaction when they first hear themselves sing (or even speak). If others think you're good, and you thought you were good (until you heard the recording), you're probably better than you now think you are (having heard it). It's hard to be objective when you're listening to yourself. It's actually a good thing to listen to yourself, 'cause then you can learn your mistakes and fix them. Try this: (1) Ease up on yourself, (2) Focus on fixing any weaknesses, and (3) Accept the compliments! Other people have ears, just like you do -- we don't always sound the same to others as we do to ourselves.

Use the device to improve your vocals, if you didn't like it...probably no one else liked it in the first place.
People needn't encourage mediocrity (like we all see from the self confident American idol wannabees..the ones with the most attitude are the ones that are sound deaf).

Maybe they're trying to be nice. Just keep practicing and you'll eventually improve your voice. Good Luck!

believe it or not that is also news to me

I know Englishmen don't show when they're surprised but trust me I'm more surprised than the guy who got his ear bitten off by Mike Tyson.

Well can you carry a tune without going sharp or flat? That's a start.
