Hello,

Since Vista is really, in my opinion, not that good, I wish to install XP. I have the XP software. I also have a recovery disk of my computer (Toshiba A-200 AH6). It would be really nice if someone could tell me how I must proceed to install successfully XP. I have already put all my documents in an external hard drive. Thank you guys!

1. The Recovery disk from Toshiba is for Windows Vista.

2. You must get the XP Recovery disks (free or $$? ASK.) from Toshiba for your specific Model #.

3. DO NOT try to use a store-bought XP disk or one from an older PC. THEY WILL NOT WORK.

4. Read the Toshiba User Manual for the full "Factory" Recovery Procedure.

Just boot from your XP install disc, delete the Vista partition, create a new partition, format your drive with an NTFS file system, and install XP.

You may want to download all the XP drivers you may need for your Toshiba (sound, video etc.) and store them with your other files on the external drive first, so you have them if any are missing from the XP disc.

To install XP over Vista is not possible as far as I know. So you first have to get Vista off your HDD by formatting the drive (note that all other data you have on that drive will get lost, too, when you do that). After that, reboot your PC and let it boot from your XP CD. You may have to make a little change in the BIOS to have your PC boot from CD, but probably it will work without. After your PC has booted from CD, just follow the instructions on the screen to install XP to the partition you want to have it on.
