Like to remove rust on and around the cylinder? thanks!

You Could, But I wouldn't if I were you...I would suggest you use something other than WD-40. The formula is not kind to Black Powder Firearms and it will completely neutralize percussion caps and Black Powder if it comes in contact with either of them....

WD40 stands for "water displacer formula #40) it was designed for use on the titan missle systems. Yes,it does work as a penetrating oil. I'd rather see you soak the firearm in breakfree and keep it soaking for a day or even longer if needed., it removes rust really well. If that doesn't work, it may need some serious help. Be careful, especially so if this is a real colt as you can destroy value easily if you mess it up with chemicals.

wd isn't going to remove any rust it will soften it up some , you will need to scrape or sand the rust off ,then buff it back to a shine and re blue it.
