I have recently purchased a pair of figure skates for my daughter, can anyone describe what they should look like if they are sharpened. Or even what they should look like if the need sharpening?

New skates will almost always need sharpening. After that she will notice when the edge doesn't cut into the ice like it should. The people at the skate shop show tell you how to check the edges.

You can't tell if they need sharpening just by looking at them.

If they need sharpening, your daughter might feel unbalanced on the ice very easily

hi there
if you turn the skate on its side and scrape your thumb on the edge it should feel sharp and if you look at the blade where it touches the ice and see any rounding there they need sharpening.
