Hey everyone.Over two months ago i had one of the worst colds of my life, that began with a sore throat, and horrible cough. Like an idiot i continued smoking a substance through this cold, which made it worse. I got this feeling that something was stuck on the left side halfway down my throat, which hurt everytime i swallowed. So clearly i quit smoking ,but since than havent been able to get rid of this sore throat. no matter how faint i make it seem, its still there. As well as this throat pain i have been getting severe headaches on the same side of my head, near the back. This is usually accompanied by earaches, and a jaw pain that i've never felt before. all on the left side of my head. for example i was drinking lastnight and my head is pounding with pain now...i cant stand it. Anyways i went to the EarNoseThroat specialist, and he told me to gargle salt and warm water for a month, and to see him again if its still there. This is so frustrating, does anyone have ideas?

Did the ENT check you for TMJ? I had very similar symptoms as yourself, I still do actually. Mine came from me trying to pop my clogged ears using my jaw - you know yawning all the time. That irritated my jaw muscle and caused it to become inflamed. When this happens the jaw hurts, the throat hurts, the ear hurts and even your head could hurt. It is probably all sinus related. Try to take it easy on your jaw for the next week, don't chew gum or eat anything really chewy, like bagels. See if that helps.

I am thinking something else. You smoked a substance? I assume not nicotine? Likewise you drink, I assume alcohol? I am just wondering if you find life stressful and perhaps at night while you are asleep you are 'grinding' your teeth? This could account for the symptoms. How do you find out? Well not sure if a Dentist could pick up, depending on it being just two months. Perhaps you should find a room mate to stay over and see if they hear you grinding your teeth during your sleep? Good Luck.

Are your tonsils swollen? You may need to get them out. Or you could possibly have mono. There are other, and potentially more serious things that could be wrong with you but all you can do is see a doctor and try to rest as much as you can.. Good luck

it could be an infection. you might need antibiotics. go to another doctor. that guy doesn't sound very helpful if you've seen him several times for the same thing and all he can offer is salt water. .......... what a geek.
