I agree with your brother to an extent. I was always taught cyclists should ride single breast and not ride faster than a car. They should take out insurance. If you have an accident and they damage your car then you cannot claim. They are a damn nuisance and get in the way. They cause traffic jams as they never ride near to the kerb.

Yes. It is wrong to shout at people on the road. To say from a cyclist point of view, it is unfair. I know cars hate cyclists on the road, and many cyclists are pushed around on the road, and hit by cars. These crashes are usually blamed on the cyclist, and even if the driver is blamed, they sometimes will not get charged. Some people have even written books of how cyclists are annoying and cause accidents. This is very sad indeed, of how cyclists rights are not respected. Cyclists have every right to share the road, and drivers do not like that.

I am the mechanic for a professional race team, we drive at the front and rear of the group that we are training with, and still idiots like your brother try to intimidate the team, who are actualy doing their job by being on the road. They all earn a substantial salary and pay a significant amount in taxation, the team cars are all taxed, the flights are taxed, the team bus pays all excise, duty and tax wherever it travels. Your brother is typical of jealous people who 'wish they were good enough...' the same people who spit at footballers, throw stones at firemen, complain about policemen etc etc. He's an idiot, and can actually be imprisoned for his actions. When a car collides with a cyclist - there is only one victim - the cyclist DIES, his or her family are robbed of a loved one, bread-winner, colleagues lose a workmate etc, etc.

Your brother is making up excuses for Road Rage, and needs help in anger management. He may truly be sick. Encourage him to seek professional help.

I am a driver and cyclist, not in the UK -- American. Here all the road use tax is supposed to come from fuel taxes. It all goes into the general fund -- therefore we all, drivers - cyclists - pedestrians, pay road taxes

We used to have a bloke near where I live, who used to stand on the roadside and shout at cars(nutty as a fruitcake!)

How many times do I have to say this!

ROAD TAX HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ENTITLEMENT TO USE THE ROADS!

'Vehicle excise duty' is payable by motorised vehicles only!
(pedestrians, horses and bicycles don't have motors)

I pay for the roads through my council tax - tell your ignoramous brother to get a life.

btw. I am a UK roadie.

Yes. He is wrong. Because he is driving a car does not give him the right to abuse anyone.I understand it can be frustrating to be stuck behind a group of cyclists, particularly on a country roadwhere it may be difficult to pass, but you have to be mature about it . I think your brother needs to grow up - whatever age he is. The cyclists have every right to be on the road.

I do long distance cycling in England and have been cycling 20yrs, it states in the highway code that (cyclist)are by law allowed to cycle two abreast (side by side)where safe to do so,and on a sunday when we are on our club run around cheshire and shropshire there can be up to 60 road cyclist in one bunch and most of us pull into the single file to let traffic pass. The roads we choose are virtually traffic free and are very narrow and are there for every one to use.To be a member of a club of which i am a member of 4 clubs,AUDAX U.K,CYCLE TOURING CLUB,MANCHESTER WHEELERS AND THE VC167,i take this kind of childish attitude personally and to be a member of any club it is compulsery that we have insurence and most of us do pay road tax as we are selves are motorist.I cycle every day to work and i am constantly being in near collisions by people in cars who think its funny, and then hurl abuse as they are driving past.
3000 people are killed on our roads every year,
And a lot of people i have met over the years in cycling have been killed by careless motorist.
I just hope no one close to you or your brother has this happen to them.

In answer to you question your brother is an A**HOLE who should shut his ignorant mouth before someone gets hurt -- maybe him! Cyclist are allowed to ride up to two abreast when conditions or width of the road permit it and are allowed to ride up to four feet from the curb (or kerb as you say it). Local laws vary depending on the state and city you live in, but these are laws that are true in most any state and city in the US. In general most cyclists do follow road rules but just as there are idoit car drivers there are certainly idiot cyclists as well. Lastly, why does your idiot brother think cyclists do not pay taxes? Do cyclists not live in the community they ride in? Do they not drive their cars? Do they not pay sales, gasoline and property taxes just like your idiot brother does? Most certainly they do and cyclists then have just as much right to utilize the roads they pay taxes for as much as your idoit brother does. So, to use your term, he can bog off!

I never shout abuse at a group of thirty or so people. Imagine what they could do if they all decided to stop and deal with your brother.
