My puppy had cataracts from birth. We took him to an ophthalmologist vetrinarian. There are only about 200 of these eye vets in the US. They looked into his eyes and gave me special eyedrops to dilate the pupil. The first visit was only about $300. Then we needed to give him eye drops everyday. Do not delay because sometimes they can help the cataracts without surgury but if you let it go the retina will detach and there will be no cure only permanent blindness. My dog almost had the cataract removal surgury which would have been $1400 for both eyes. I did not think that was much. My grandma had a similar surgury and it cost about 2x's that amount. I gave my puppy Purina One which stated on bag helps with eye development. I also gave him the various eyedrops and when we went back to the vet they said his cataracts dissolved and he did not need the operation. Please take your dog and give him a chance. Good Luck to you and your dog.

Something you might want to check....if this was a sudden onset after your dog was ill you might want to read up on "Hepatitis Blue Eye", it can be a side effect of your dog contracting Infectious Canine Hepatitis.
Shortly after adopting my puppy from a rescue shelter she contracted this (and Parvo) and as a result she has a permanent blue cast to her eyes that makes most people think she has cataracts. I had never heard of this until she was diagnosed, and while most people think she should have been put down, she has lived very happily for the last 6 years even with her somewhat "fuzzy" vision.
I'm attempting to post a source of info if you'd like more information...hopefully it comes through

How old is the dog? Cataracts are a developed disease that takes a long time to contract. I gather that you are talking about a "foggy" looking lens in both eyes. If this is the case, there is nothing that you can do unless you want to spend a lot of money on the animal.

If your dog has cataracts I would suggest getting a "seeing eye person" for the dog.
This condition is common especially for poodles and spaniels. My dog lived to be 18 and would occasionally bump into a wall but otherwise ...
She was nose to nose with a skunk and didn't even know it but she was the least concerned of the three of us.
She lived a long and contented life.
Don't worry. Unless you have oodles of money just let it be.

Your dogs eyesight is at risk and you are asking for a cheap remedy.....??Eyes are not a basic necessity of life, but they sure help alot.Check out your local(or nearest ) university and see if they have a student vet clinic near you. Some universities have the students do lowcost surgeries under the watchful eye of a certified veternarian. If no luck there call some local lowcost clinics and ask if there is any help available for your dog.Good luck.

Sorry, the only way is to take your poor dog to the vet. A pet is like a family member. They need medical cares when they are sick. If you are short of cash, ask your vet about payment plans or apply for care credit.

There is no "cheap" remedy. She needs to see the vet for an accurate diagnosis.
