I'm not talking specifically about the cleaning materials, but the ink itself.

I asked because my sister seems to be allergic to everything in the book and she really wants one. I was just wondering if there have been past experiences.. but I guess there have been. Thank you.

Absolutely. I developed an allergy to the metal used in blue ink, cadmium. It causes bumps to form below the surface of the skin and they can be painful. I went to a dermatologist and was prescribed a steroidal ointment that has controlled the bumps, but unfortunately not eradicated them completely.

If you are having similar problems, I would see a dermatologist directly. They won't go away on their own or with OTC medications.

BTW: I also have had a bacterial infection associated with a tattoo, but it was totally different. And, it was not caused from dirty equipment but from me not following the instructions that I was given to keep the tattoo covered and not to mess with it. All that to say, a bacterial infection is very painful and if you get cellulitus, it can land you in the hospital. So, please follow the safety instructions that they tell you.

If the symptoms are like the ones I previously described, then you still should have the area looked at. Neither condition will go away on its own.

Good luck!

Yes it is possible to be allergic to the ink best way to find out get a dot or two (im talkin pen tip size) done somwhere you can see an it wont matter and see what happens. If the area stays fine and nothing happens she should be good. be sure to ask the artist about that before hand though if you go to a good place they should have info about it for you.

Of course. Go see an allergist. When you do, remember that that your body is in a constant state of change. You might be allergic to ragweed this season, but not next. If you really love that tattoo, the Doctor may be able to give you a shot that will lessen the effect of whatever you are allergic to.

Yes it is-- however, the most severe reaction to tattoos is usually not this type of reaction, but from bacterial infections. I read in a medical journal some time ago about a case where a bacterial infection, caused by the process of tattooing, precipitated a permanent condition of muscular atrophy in the shoulder and arm.

Yes, you can be allergic to the ink, but it's rare. If you're really concerned or worried my suggestion would be to go to a doctor and ask them about it.

Yes, it is possible, as people can be allegic to a certain color. If that color shows up in ink, it is possible to be allergic to that specific tattoo.
Why did you ask that?

yes. and she could also be allergic to the needle. you should probably ask a tattoo artist to see what is in the ink, what kind of needles they use, etc. then ask a doctor and tell him what the tattoo artist told you, just so he has something to draw from.
