(Or a non-Christian religion)

Which is more important to you and your identity, your faith or your nation? Either? Neither? What, if anything, do you feel your answer says about your commitment to either?

Note: I'm not saying there is no way to strike a balance, nor judging any answers. This is an absolute question, and I understand the world rarely operates on absolute terms, but please stay within the bounds of the question.

Dude . . . what's with the massive thumbs downs for all who answered Christian first then American? I'm faithless and can still understand why they answered as such. I'd just like to say that's incredibly cowardly, knowing you can secretively give someone negative feedback for their conviction. Shame on all of you.

Anyhow, If I chose to devote myself to a belief, I would have to agree with everyone here, that I would identify myself that way over being American. However, because I'm an Apathist and have no ties to any faith or religion, I will always associate myself with being Californian. And that is something I'm always proud of. :)

Many of the early Christians died horrible deaths before they would deny their faith, including Jesus Christ. My paternal ancestors had to flee Germany in the 1700's for this very reason. They were Catholic..the choice was convert or be banished. They bravely left everything behind and came to America.

As much as I love my country, America. If forced "by the sword" to make a choice. I would have to chose my religious beliefs.

I answered your question as honestly as I could.

peace be with you

I'm a "Christian" first because I know the truth about life. Being an American is important while I'm alive because of the role we play in the spiritual awakening currently going on in the world.

My faith is more important however this goes hand in hand with being an American. This country was founded on a premise of religious freedom. "In God We Trust" is on our money. Therefore I would say that I am free to put my faith first because I am an American.
