If so... there is no scientific proof for the soul and yet you believe? Why do you believe that it exists?

I'm not an atheist, and I have a soul which can be detected the same way you can detect that you have a body and that is via the 5 physical senses and everything else in the material world for that matter.

You also have those same 5 senses in the soul; you can "hear" with your inner ears, and "see" with your inner "eyes" and you ever smelled something funny or a "rat" in a situation whitout actually seeing anything wrong?

Have you ever "felt" someone touch you without being physically touched? Guess what, that is your soul senses perceiving other souls (soul=mind)

Do you have certain "tastes" in music or art or anything else? Have you ever had a bittersweet moment in your life?

Now I could go on and describe the spirit but that was not your question.

Faith my friend. Faith is believing in things not seen. If there were scientific proof that a soul existed, then that demeans the purpose of faith. I would rather live as if there were then to die and find out I wasted my time. Everyone is entitled to believe what they want that is the freedom of choice. I myself as a Christian dont believe in getting mad or ranting and raving trying to bully someone to believe. You can do more damage then good trying that approach. It is more defined than just heaven or hell, sinner or saint etc. That isnt what witnessing is about. When I was a young child, I prayed for God to show me that he existed and to let me know he heard me (those exact words), my mom and I prayed for help cause she was a single mom and they were going to foreclose on our house and the next day, she got a check in the mail saying that my dad overpaid his child support. That wasnt just a coincidence. My mom prayed for me one day when I was on the interstate with my friend and I heard a voice (I am not a schizo) (this is what people define as divine intervention) tell me to put my seatbelt on. We rear ended a car going 70 miles an hour. The fireman told me that I was lucky I was wearing my seatbelt of I would have flown through the windshield. I think that because I stay open, I am receptive. I have had many many experiences like this in my life. There was a traffic jam. I was 12 at that time. The definiton of life has got to be more than just electronic responses in the brain. When people open up themselves and allow God to talk to them, the possibilites are endless. Even just giving it a try. When I talk to God I dont feel like I am talking to myself, I never have. Maybe I am the only one that is stupid enough to respond to this question but the question was why and that my answer.

I'm not atheist, but there has been a scientific study that used near-death people. They checked their weight roughly before they died, and after they died. The average soul of a person weighed in at 1/4 of an ounce. They tested this on 100 elderly people.

This proved the existence of souls because nothing else could have been lost immediately after death except for a soul.

There are two problems with this question. First, you assume that if there is no scientific proof for something, then atheists could not believe it. This premise is false. For example, atheists believe in various philosophies, which cannot be physically proven, only logically argued for. Religion is basically a philosophy, with logical fallacies.

Second, you need to define soul. The first definition in Websters is: "the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life." From this definition, it appears that the soul is simply a collective term for the beliefs that cause us to act, and not something to believe in.

Yes I do! I consider myself to be an Atheist as I don't believe in God, Jesus or the bible. It's a fairytale to me. But yes I do believe we all have souls. Not souls religeous people believe in.. just energy.

God does exist! You have a soul and depending on how you live your life decides whether it goes to Heaven or Hell! And if you don't believe me read the Bible! It will answer your question!

The soul is the heart of a person

As in a personality? My mind must exist. I think, therefore I am. As for a soul that lives in your heart and contains your mind and floats up to heaven when you die-no.

Define "soul". Then, I could argue for or against existence of souls in general, and mine (if it exists/is applicable at all) in particular.
