Not sure if this is proper etiquette or not. I am not a regular Starbucks drinker, but I did receive a gift card for Christmas. I was hoping to treat myself this morning but my son fell asleep in the car. I didn't want to carry him in (he's almost 3) so I skipped my Starbucks treat.

In hindsight, I figured everyone else pays via credit or gift card in the drive-throughs. I'm not big on fast food either, so when I plan to use a drive through, I make sure to have cash.

Opinions or comments? Is it acceptable to use a gift card in the drive through?

Jeez....what's with the thumbs down to everyone's answers?! Someone has way too much time on their hands. I do appreciate all your answers. Someone mentioned that I need to get with the times, but the fact is-I just don't do fast food enough to get with the times!

I work the Starbucks Drive Thru a lot when I'm not on Front Reg. and most people pay with Starbucks Cards! Don't worry about it, we don't mind, we just make the coffee for you to enjoy, so pay whichever way you would like to.

It's really not a question of if it's acceptable, there's nothing rude about paying someone for food! If the restaurant accepts gift cards or credit cards, they won't be angry about you using one in the drive through.

I'm not sure as well as I usually enter Starbucks in the store, instead of the drive through.
You can call Starbucks to answer your inquiry:
Starbucks Card Customer Service
(800) 782-7282
Mon – Fri 5 AM – 8 PM (PST)
Sat – Sun 6 AM – 6 PM (PST)
I got the info from Starbucks.com

Hope this helps!

of course it is. Gift Cards are the same as cash! You'll get a balance stated on your receipt.

I've used mine at the drive thru, no problem. Seems to me the staff is very proficient in handling this type of transaction. I like to give some cash too for a tip.

Of course you can use it at the drive through. I think it's even faster - they just swipe it and print a receipt. Making change takes longer :)

get your starbucks, but remember cash is dirty and most of it has cocaine on it, that and its use is becoming to be considered vulgar as it then requires digging for change which is undignified. that and if you pay cash at starbucks you need to tip, so get with the times, cards only
