cupcakes! I've also heard of people doing a little cake for the bride and groom, but cupcakes for the guests.

You could have cupcakes instead & place them on a tiered stand to resemble a traditional wedding cake. Or you could have individual mini wedding cakes for each pair of guests or each table, depending on what size cakes you choose. If you are looking for something completely different than a cake go with a favortie dessert for the time of year you're getting married (i.e., pumpkin pie for a fall wedding).

We both really wanted cupcakes instead of a wedding cake (it's kind of an inside joke with us). Our venue package provides either a wedding cake (which we don't want), or a dessert served with dinner. So, we're having apple tarts served with dinner, and the cupcakes and coffee will be served around 10:00 (slow down the drinking!). I was at a wedding where they served cheesecake instead of traditional wedding cake. I've also seen dessert tables with small sweets instead of, or in addition to, a wedding cake. I heard of someone who had pie.

What kind of dessert do you and your fiance like? Maybe that's a place to start. (Though, if I took this approach with my fiance, he'd have picked Jello!).

Cheesecakes

Pies. Either a stack of big ones or even individual little tarts

I just did an itialian wedding where the "cake" was individual Tiramisus in martini glasses stacked to look like a giant wedding cake

Cookies

French Creme Broquche (spelling?) where you use a form and pile up macaroons or donut holes then drizzle spun sugar to get a harder crust and make it cake shaped

Puddings

Perhaps individual cobblers

Souffle's

If you have some traditional "fancy" cookies your family has during special occasions and holidays. serve large platters of the cookies with a "to go" box or bag to the tables.

Or have your bakery make "monogram" cookies for each guest either served or wrapped to go.

Cheesecake is always a favorite. Or perhaps the venue has a signature dessert they will serve. One wedding instead of cake, they served flamming creme burlee with fresh raspberries super yummy. Very impressive and different.

Or have a dessert cart with the options of pies, candy, or cake, fresh fruit, etc. served to the tables and let the guest choose their own treat.

I'm having cupcakes...small ones and regular size ones (so people can have "a taste" or gorge themselves). The top tier of the tray will have a tiny cake (6" or something like that...I'm still kinda planning it!) that we can cut and have to ourselves. My wedding is going to be very casual so cupcakes are perfect!

We had a dessert buffet that include a white chocolate fountain, in addition to a small cake that was mainly to take pictures of us cutting the cake.

At least have a small cake for the photo op and the cute cake topper that you can keep as a momento! Ours has the little groom carrying the bride in his arms and we keep it on a shelf in our dining room.

I know someone who had cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. It was amazing too!! It didn't look cheap or childish. The cake designer did an amazing job. You should check it out.

I have saw several different types of dessert instead of the traditional wedding cake, you could use cupcakes, pies, fudges,
cheesecakes or any dessert that the bride and groom like. It's your day and whatever you want goes !!
