They tell you that you can't eat certain things, but I ate them anyway and never had any problems.

I did pop off a bracket once while I was eating a sucker. Only because I tried to eat the sucker instead of licking it lol..

I chewed gum, chewy candy, and all those things they tell you not to eat. If you learn how to chew it right, it won't cause any problems to your braces.

I do have one tip though for the day you get them on: SOUP!

Your mouth will be too sore to chew, so make sure you have plenty of soup in the cabinet.

I have braces and there are many things I'm not supposed to eat. I got a list from my dentist.
They are:

Ice- it will completely destroy your braces.

Pizza Crust- The hard crust bends wires.

Hard Pretzels- Bends wires, loosens bands, knocks off brackets.

Doritos, Tacos, Fritos - Will form a hard ball and break your braces.

Caramels, Gummy Bears, Chewing Gum- Sticky goo which pulls off wires and feeds the bacteria in your mouth.

Hard Mouth rolls, Bagels, Bones- bends the wire and knocks off brackets.

Beef Jerky, Slim Jims- Tough as nails!

Suckers- You might weaken and bite.

Peanuts, nuts, etc.- No nuts of any kind.

Bones- Knocks off brackets.

Pens & Pencils- Favorite time Exam Food, breaks everything.

Popcorn- The little shells get between the gum and band-hurts like crazy.

Raw Carrot & Celery Sticks- Hard as a rock. Cut into small pieces.

Fruits- Peel off any skin and cut into small pieces.

Eating these foods will loosen the braces, but you may not discover the problem until hours or days later...SURPRISE! Loose bands, broken wires and detached brackets cause a longer treatment time!

Your dentist will usually give you a list of foods you can't eat. Some of the major ones include corn on the cob, apples, any fruit that you bite into really, anything sticky like taffy, now and laters or gum, anything super hard that would cause a bracket to fall off.

You can eat corn on the cob, apples and other fruits you bite into as long as you cut them up or cut the corn off of the cob. There really isn't a whole lot that you can't eat.

Just don't eat anything thats too hard. and you definitely can't bite into an apple anymore. While out, avoid foods that are too soft that can be stuck in your braces, it can be unattractive.

No popcorn-at all. If you're gonna eat Doritos or an apple or something, take small bites & chew thoroughly & slowly. If you wanna chew gum, you can't chew bubble gum & stuff-just stick-free gum like Freedent. Don't try to chew on jolly ranchers & stuff. Also bursh your teeth after each meal & floss morning & night.

Eat whatever you want to eat. You will learn that some things just aren't worth eating with braces on.

anything really sticky like gum, or marshmallows. also anything really hard, like some candys. you orthodontist should tell you though, when he puts the braces on, its part of the job, he/she has to tell you what you cant eat with braces. if he doesnt tell you, then just ask
