I think primitive man created "God" to explain the unexplainable. If you study all the religions of the world you also notice that earlier gods where barbaric, reflecting the times they where concocted. Notice as humans became more civilized so did their gods. Coincidence?

Thank you all for the answers...Especially those who insulted me for encouraging the act of thinking for yourself, it just reinforces what I already know. People who beleive in a god are basically insecure and that's why so many are tortured and killed in the name of an invisible idea.

sorry you are wrong, God always has been, so prior to "our" little world ever existing He was, says so in the only unchallenged book ever the Bible. I say unchallenged because no one can refute anything in the Bible because it has ALL happened or will happen. Man did create different so called gods through time, which always has been and issue with the one and only true God, thus the reason for the destruction of the earth in the story of Noah, then the close call with Ninevah, Moses coming down with the ten commandments and finding all the other gods being worshipped and getting upset. Men continually get distracted from the one true God because he allows us free choice, and satan who is real and is here to decieve us is at work all the time, just like in your thinking or misleading. The relationship between man and God did change over the years and from the early times with the sacfafice of Jesus (God's son) who died so that we could approach God directly rather than through other material sacrifice. Spend some time reading the one true book, the Bible and after you have spent as much time studying there you too will realize the flaw in your belief, but I know it is so much easier to take the path you have, walking the straight and narrow path is hard and requires some sacrifice

Its not to explain the unexplainable. Its to make people feel relevant. Can you imagine what a cockroach must feel like. One of a billion. Sucks to think of yourself as just another cockroach so we create this fantasy world we are actually important in the whole scheme of things. Sorta of when we witness a person who escapes a fire and everyone says, its a miracle God must have something planned for you. Or you will go to heaven or hell when you die, it has a bit of significance to it. To commune with a god or be in charge of doing gods work on a daily basis the individual can feel very very worthwhile. So did the universe need a creator? No. But mankind does in order to live in it because the inevitability of a complete end is just as hard to fathom as an eternity.

Why does the universe need a creator? Perhaps it doesn't, but it is worth pointing out that the universe is finite. We know from the Cosmic Background Radiation that the universe only began to exist 13.8 billion years ago, and that no matter predates that moment - even time itself does not predate it.

An extra-universal creator, not bound by the temporal constraints of the universe, is alien to such concepts as "began" or "Created." But the universe itself is not - if the universe originated (which it did) that suggests one of two possibilities:

- The universe was created by an event in an unseeable, unfalsifiable multiverse
- The universe was created by an unseeable, unfalsifiable intelligence, which we might label "God" for our purposes.

Consiglieri: that is correct. The mathematical models of the Big Bang show that matter came into being _after_ the initial Scalar Field from which the Big Bang sources. An equal amount of particles and anti-particles came into existence, and because some of the anti-particles decayed instantly, the remaining baryonic matter is what you see around you. It does not predate 13.8 billion years ago.

God is the Creator who was around BEFORE the world was formed..he created the stars and planets..It has been scientifically proven that man's brain cannot comprehend the enormity of the universe so how can man comprehend the Creator who made it..(It's like when you were a young child.. there was alot that you did not understand but as you grew ,,you also grew in understanding..and hopefully still are.)

Not only a creator of the universe so vast but a master to orchestrate it. You are exactly right. People twist their Holy books around all the time for it to suit many common here and now interests. It's so old. So very, very, very, very old. Half the guys who wrote the various books were secretaries to tyrants. They didn't even get the credit for the writing they did. There is stuff in that book written in the third person. It's just ridiculous to see it a guide book to life.

That's the nub of the problem isn't it who created God? I'm with you on the way religious texts have become less idiotic over time. The old testament is full of murder, genocide, draconian laws and stupidity. Then all of a sudden God is love and all forgiving but a woman still got stoned to death for committing adultery. Look is it not time that as rational beings we stopped believing in fairy stories. There is no god full stop end of argument.

That is exactly right.

Its hard to maintain that morality comes from God when there is a book depicting that God committing genocide in the promised land.

The Idea that God is not a part of the universe, is really only maintained to help people maintain a sense of purpose and morality in life, that they were falsely led to believe comes from God.

Evolver, Matter doesn't predate that moment? Or the universe as we understand it doesn't predate that moment?

The fact that matter cannot be made into "nothingness" indicates that it most definitely does predate that moment.

You don't NEED a Creator. BUT, He IS the Creator. Faith alone tells you that there is a Creator. Common sense tells you that there is a Creator. The Creator is the Scientist who created everything including chemicals and matter. How else can you explain it? God exists and can't be explained. That is why he is GOD. If you could explain it YOU would be God. We still wouldn't understand because our learning, however large, is finite.

Becos the universe is not God, universe is a creature.
People created idols. Not many know The One True God.... the One who created everything, he even created the rocks they use to create their idols and call them gods..... how pathetic.... hardly anyone knows Him and He knows us all.
