Satan's plan was to take away our Free Will (Freedom of Choice) and bring us all back as His children. His plan was a direct contradiction to God's plan - which Jesus Christ implemented. Those who followed Satan's plan were in agreement with him, and did not want to be tested and tried, but have assurance that, no matter what, they would be brought back to heaven and worship Satan as their "God".
Suffice it to say, that plan was not accepted. However, Satan was allowed to ply his will on the mortals who came to earth, and that is what temptation and evil are all about. Those who choose to follow Satan in this life will pretty much get the same reward that those who chose him in the first place get.

Pride (Wanting to be the Most High)-

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD,
Because you have made your heart
Like the heart of God,
Therefore, behold, I will bring strangers upon you,
The most ruthless of the nations.
And they will draw their swords
Against the beauty of your wisdom
And defile your splendor.
They will bring you down to the pit,
And you will die the death of those who are slain
In the heart of the seas.
Will you still say, "I am a god,"
In the presence of your slayer,
Though you are a man and not God,
In the hands of those who wound you?
You will die the death of the uncircumcised
By the hand of strangers,
For I have spoken!' declares the Lord GOD!

Lucifer was the first angel to rebel against God and with him he took one third of the the celestial host. Lucifer was the most beautiful angel (The Morning Star, The Lightbringer), so beautiful indeed that he envied God and wanted to receive all His praises: he didn't accept the idea of bowing before Jesus and hated being inferior to any human...

The Quran has the same story, but they call him Iblis and I think he is supposed to be a Djinn instead of an Angel (a creature of fire) who refused to bow down to man, for man was made of clay, and he was formed from fire and so man was his inferior. For this, Allah cast him down from Heaven...

Satan thought he would be God. NOT!! Got him kicked out of heaven along with 1/3 of God's angels, who became demons on earth.
