This may be an allergy to pectin, a protein found in particularly high doses in the pithy part (white bit) of citrus fruits. It's also the stuff that makes better jams and jellies gel.
If the allergy is serious enough to restrict your airway, you need to see a doctor, preferably an allergist. She can identify exactly what you're allergic to and offer a list of foods to avoid, as well as providing a portable, life-saving device in case of accidental exposure.
Until you can see the doctor, however, you may want to take Benadryl or some other antihistamine, which will reduce the allergic (i.e. histamine) response.
P.S.: My son is allergic to the proteins in milk, so I know how tough and frightening this can be.

Gargle with warm salty water and afterwards a teaspoon of honey, but 4 days is a long time for a sore throat and I'd see your doctor in case it's serious!

Definitely an allergy....go to the doctor and have him prescribe something for you so if you accidently eat something like this you can take the medicine. Some allergys cause swelling in the esophogus which can be deadly.

it's caused by allergies. My friend has this problem, she is allergic to pretty much every raw fruit out there. Get an allergy test to see what fruit you are allergic to and what other things you need to avoid (grass, pet fur, etc)

The same thing happens to me whenever I eat peaches, apples or raw almonds (but not roasted or salted almonds and not to any other kind of nut???) I read that there are allergies to all kinds of fruits and vegetables. When I brought it up to my doctor, she told me to avoid eating these foods.
You should probably bring it up to your dr. and avoid those foods.
