The week before Christmas I was layed off from a job i have had for over 2 years, working at a hot tub store. I liked this job and it payed me well. ($9/hr) Recently the company has not been making much money. As a result, i was only working 2-3 days a week. WHich was tough because i have truck payments as well as insurance and cell phone bills and obviouslly gas. The week before christmas, i walked in and they said today is your last day, we are not making enough monay and have to lay you off. After 2 days they called me at home and said they would like me to be "on call" , so i would come in and work when it accommodated them. They said they will try and get me to work 1 day a week, which i believe would be enough to stop me from applying for unemployment. But i applied for unemployment anyway. I will be a full time student starting in the middle of january and can get a job in the spring(pool store) But i am not sure of what i can do until then. Any suggestions? Thank you

Might the idea of a part time business be of interest, although it is unlikely to bring in much between now and the end of January, but it certainly could be producing an income by the spring.
In these uncertain days I would always advise people to take a serious look at a secondary income, particularly if you can run it alongside what you currently do.
If you are interested then get back to me by email and I will give you some more details, also it would be useful if you could let me know which town/city you live in.

Dear Jesse,

I have owned many pool/spa stores. If you know what you are doing why work for someone else? Hot Tub repair is a great source of income...much better then swimming pool maintenance. Both make a lot more then 9 an hour. Email us and we can chat and lead you in the right direction.

Odd jobs.
- Raking or Shoveling or Grassmowing (depends on climate obviously)
- Taking down christmas lights for people
- car washing - if warm enough/not snowy
- housecleaning
- changing oil
- anything else you can think of

You can make more doing a couple of those things than you could working there at $9/hr for one day a week I would think.

You should go to your schools job placement office. They will have jobs that employers are looking for students and can work with your schedule.
If not go to a job employment agency near you.
You need to be loyal to yourself no company will ever be loyal to you. It's all about $$$$.

working an occasional day will not affect your unemployment, Check with your unemployment office how much you can make before it affects what you receive
