It plays Blu-Ray Discs not HD-DVDs. Sony makes the Blu-Ray discs and the Playstation of course. I have a Playstation 3 and Blu Ray discs play great. Don't waste your money trying to play an HD-DVD in it.

HD-DVD format is not supported by PS3, it does play Blue-Ray and standard DVD, Blue-Ray is the competing format to HD-DVD in the hi-def war, and by the way Blue-Ray is winning the war with 70% of the HD disk market in the USA right now.

No HD DVD is different than Blu-Ray. it does play Blu-Ray at a full 1080 and it is gorgeous (I have one myself) but the HD DVDs do not work they are a completely different formatted disk.
