First of all - ALL tattooing fades. It varies from person to person and location of the tattoo, the colors used, etc. Sun is very bad on tattoos and the face is exposed all the time.
Most people have black eyeliner applied and when done by a professional with high quality ink, it will last many years without needing much of a touch up.
It generally takes a couple of sessions to get it just perfect.
As far as the pain, it does hurt but most everyone I know who does eyeliner tattooing uses anesthetics. I have never had a single person not be able to have the work finished once they started and everyone says it is not nearly as bad as they had anticipated.
It's great on your eyes - no pulling and stretching like putting on makeup, nothing to get into your eyes, nothing to flake off or smear!

I had my eyebrows tattooed last year (Dec. 8th, 2006) and they donot look faded at all. It didn't hurt either. However I've always wanted to have the eyeliner tattooed because my pencil fades midday...but now that I'm reading this post, I've thought twice.
On the other hand 3 of my cousins have done it and after 2 years they look grayish in color. Though I also have a tattoo in my right leg, I will get another tattoo done on my left shoulder instead.
To finalize....I have very sensitive eyes.

I've gotten my eyebrows tattooed once, it didnt hurt but it has faded a little bit. I had this done 3 years ago. How fast it fades depends on the type of ink used, and of course how well the person does it. I know people that have gotten the eyeliner done and to my surprise they claim it didnt hurt much. The person that did mine used a special numbing liquid, and i didnt feel a thing. I have heard the most painful is the lip lining especially the top lip.

No its not done like a regular tattoo, its done with a rotary machine which is what is used for all cosmetic tattoos. Its usually beauticians that do cosmetic tattoos, but personally I would research and find a tattiooist that also specialises in cosmetic tattooing. And always make sure that your tattooist is licensed with the local council! I've not had eyeliner done myself, but a friend of mine runs a studio where they do it and you have this weird gel put in your eye which stops ink getting in it and if i remember rightly is a mild anaesthetic, so it shouldn't be too bad! I did have my eyebrows done, that was pretty painful, but not bad enough to put me off having them redone!!

Yeah my mom did. She said it hurt like hell & her eyes were swollen and teary. I'm surprised she could tolerate and go through the entire thing. It wasn't worth it - it faded away after a couple of months. Save your money and get a tattoo done somewhere else. Use eyeliner pencils and do your eyes every time you go out. I know its annoying but getting your eyes tattooed isn't worth it.

If you get only one application then yes it should fade within 6 weeks.
If you get the follow up application then it should last 2 years or so....if I remember correctly....??
