Tell you friends to pay her no attention when they first walk in the door. Bending down to pet her when she is in that state of excitement is essentially rewarding the behavior. Ignore the dog. Turn your body to keep her from planting her paws...and ONLY pet her or give her attention/affection after she has been sitting calmly for 10 minutes or so. This way, she will begin to associate calm behavior with reward.

EDIT: Do not hit, do not yell.....just ignore

You're dog sounds like she's so beautiful! My golden retreiver did this. I have been watching "Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Milan on the National Geographic Channel and his methods work very well. You'll probably need to start out with a leash. Let your friends now they are not to look at her, pet her or say anything to her (ignore her) until she is calmed down and sitting like a good girl. If she looks like she is going to jump, get her attention with a nudge or slight tug on the leash and get her to sit. She must not receive ANY affection until she behaves or she thinks it's okay to misbehave. If she sits and then gets affection, but starts to jump up again, correct her gently, put her in a sit and then love her up. You may have to give a quick push to her chest to catch her attention and prevent her from jumping from a sit position, but follow through and be gentle yet firm. You need to be her leader and SHOW her what to do. She'll get it. With my golden retreiver, she would try to jump up on me and I would step back (so she misses) and put her into a sit. Once calm, I would then love her up to her hearts content. If you have taken your dog to obedience classes and followed up on the training so that she listens to you, this should be very simple. Good luck! I'm getting a puppy in the next 6 months and I can't wait! We've been 5 long years without a dog and that's much to long for me!

She is excited about the visitor.

Tell your visitors that when they come in that they are not talk to her, or make eye contact or to touch her. Come in as if she is not there. If she jumps you immediately, snap your fingers at her so she knows to get down. Repeat your instructions, you do NOT HAVE TO SAY HER NAME OR TALK TO HER. make a noise, shush, snap, or a grunt but use the same noise each time. Block her with a hand out and make her stay away 3 feet or more. She'll quickly get the idea. After everyone is in and settled and sitting. She can be allowed to come sniff and introduce herself as long as she is calm and controlled. If she get out of hand,,,, immmediately snap and hold you hand to block her. She will learn very soon that she gets petted when she is calm.

You stay calm and assertive, no talking,no scolding. Just firm instruction.

IT WORKS TRY IT>

I know with ACD's if you ignore them they just try harder lol. I find I keep a leash on & they have to SIT for attention. If the person wants to pet them & my dogs start to jump up, I correct them gently & make them sit. Once they're calm, I invite the person to pet them again. It takes awhile but I know for my guys the knee thing doesn't work & I'm only 5' so I'm not tall enough ha ha ha. Any time they make a motion to jump up they will not get attention. They have all learned the command "sit nice for attention".

grab the dogs paws and supply a delicate, yet significant, squeeze on the middle pads of their ft. this is uncomfortable for the dogs, and could make it p.c. to get down. If she bites you, i could advise biting her decrease back, yet many human beings are not delicate with it, so right here is yet another tactic. while she bites you, YELP. Yelp like a dogs which you have have been given in simple terms stepped on's tail. extreme pitched and sensible sounding, techniques you, gets her interest, confuse her, yet make the dogs comprehend that it hurts. dogs have lots harder dermis than we do, so as domestic dogs, they learn that a yelp means provide up from their clutter friends. they do no longer forget approximately that lesson. tell your chum that the dogs desires preparation. If she isn't keen to coach that dogs, have the dogs placed exterior once you come back into the homestead. If she's unwilling, do no longer flow over to the homestead anymore. there is not any choose for a mouthy jumper, fairly a Golden, they get extremely great!

I just read about this in Oprah magazine, when the dog jumps have the people turn their backs then they are not getting the attention they want. Have friends come over and do this several times for the dog to learn.

PS I have a pit too. never saw a blue nose pit she must be beautiful!

She's using jumping as a means to get at so when she tried to jump just stand up and push her down, say no firmly and then ignore her until she's calm. Once she's calmed down then pet her and make sure everyone treats her the same way or she won't learn.

you do NOT need classes

you can train her on your own

there is a leash that you can buy, link below, that will not let her jump, i haven't tried it but wouldn't hurt

you can tap her on the nose and tell her no, she will learn

you can normal leash her and put a control collar and pull on it and tell her no, she will learn

don't waist money on classes, you can do it on your own with patience
