Almost all Jeep models are available in 2WD or 4WD.

The Jeep Wranglers (YJ, TJ, JK, Rubicon, etc) have "Sport Bars", which are commonly called roll bars but not by Jeep (mainly for liability reasons). Full roll cages are available in the aftermarket for almost every Jeep model.

Jeeps originally started out as all 4x4s in the 1940's WWII era with no roll bars or cages.

These were called Universal models which have maintained the similar appearance through the CJ's up to the Wranglers today.

The Wranglers today are all 4x4s in the short wheelbase, but the Wrangler Unlimited models (long wheelbase) are optional 4x4 or 4x2.

The Wranglers all come with a standard roll bar/roll cage, but provide only basic protection during a roll-over.

More secure aftermarket roll cages are available for basic street/trail protection all the way up to full protection roll cages for racing to rock crawling.

The other Jeep SUV models like the Grand Cherokee, Commander, Patriot, etc. come in 4x4 and 4x2 models with NO standard roll bars or cages.

Hope this helps some.

Stock jeeps from the dealerships don't have roll cages. You only really need one if you're doing pretty extreme off roading (not just playing in mud.) They are expensive unless you buy cheap, bolt on crap the I wouldn't want to take a roll in. Like everyone else said, jeeps come in 2 and 4wd- especially the new stuff they're putting out. Most of which couldn't even jump a curb without getting high centered or destroying the engine/trans.

Believe it or not, not all Jeeps are 4 X 4. And even the role cage mock ups on stock wranglers are not all trail rated. Some are just what I would call stencils for you to build around.
