Why is ESPN and ABC so boring on commentating a NASCAR race. I love FOX and TNT with there coverage. Why can't ESPN be like that?

The only good one on ESPN staff is Allen Bestwick. He needs to be calling races. FOX is the best now that we don't have BP and NBC. I always had a soft spot for Benny Parsons. He was my favorite. Now FOX is the better of the two. Can't stand hearing Rusty on the ESPN broadcast.

Ive been an advocate for ESPN. Im all about rich tradtion. ESPN is responsible for bringing NASCAR to TV in the state its in today. During the 80s, no one wanted a stab at a race other than the Daytona 500. ESPN covered Darlington, Michigan, bristol, wilkesboro, and all the races no one else wanted. When the 90s came, the tv coverage was took to a whole new level due to ESPN. They got outbid in 1999, by FOX and NBC, and it was a shame. If they would have beat out NBC, and retained rights from 2001-2006, you would see a whole different set of commentators on the tv today for them. They would probably still have Bob Jenkins as head commentator. He was the best. Benny Parsons was great, and I wish he was still alive to call the races today. Ned Jarrett was very good also, but I think his health is up in air today. I like Punch, I think he has a racing brodcaster "voice".

I like FOX to some extent, but the gimmics get old to me. I hated TNT this past season except for Kyle Petty. Bill Webber is just as bad if not worse as Rusty and Daughtry(sp).

My ideal race brodcast crew for ESPN/ABC would be as followed:

Bob Jenkins: Lead analysis- play by play
Dale Jarrett: driver analysis, he was good for the few races he was on
Jerry Punch: id keep him up there, because he is good

Pits:

Allen Bestwick: he probably should be in the booth for someone, so mabey id switch Punch and Bestwick. Bestwick is good, period.

John Kernan: He was a pit reporter during the 90s for ESPN. He hosted RPM2nite. He is a drag racing reporter for ESPN now. Lets bring him back to NASCAR where he belongs.

Ray Dunlap: He was also on ESPN during the late 90s. Hes done some things in the past few years that SPEED isint happy about. He was suspended for 1 race. He is good in the pits though, and if SPEED ever fires him, ESPN should pick him back up.

Id then keep little and spake somewhere, just so I got something to look at=]

for the countdown show, Id narrow it down to 30 minutes. Id have it start at 12:30 eastern for races that are on the east coast. Id definately dump Kolber and Brad. They dont know what they are talking about.

Id have Rusty Wallace and Andy Petree do the countdown show, give them a more relaxed portion of the brodcast, so they dont have to talk as much.

ESPN does some things well, but their "in-race" coverage needs help. It's brutal what Rusty does to the English language and perpetuates the "dumb redneck" stereotype. Punch is good. I just don't know about Petree. Sometimes he's good, and other day I don't care for him. The pit reporters are o.k., but I hate it when they deliberatetly try to egg on a driver who's just crashed.
Their "outside the race" production is top notch. I love my "Ultimate NASCAR" library. Only the worldwide leader in sports can give you that.
I love FOX. Love DW, Joy's great, and so is Hammond. I also like Larry Mac's work.

Dr. Jerry Punch is the only one on ESPN/ABC that I like. Rusty and Andy just doesn't have what it takes to be a good announcer. I wish(and this is just my opinion) that it was Dr. Jerry Punch, Daryl Waltrip and Wally Dallenbach in the booth and in the pits it would be Bill Webber, Jamie Little,Alan Bestwick and Dave Burns. The pre-race show would have Dave Despain, Kenny Wallace and Larry Mac.

Because ESPN is too worried about promoting other sports.
