Victorian children's author, Beatrix Potter, of Peter Rabbit fame wrote "The Tailor of Gloucester" in 1897: When the Mayor of Gloucester orders a cherry-red coat for his Christmas wedding, Pritchard the tailor all but finishes it except for a piece of twisted silk to sew on the final button. To purchase this bit of silk, he gives his last coin to Simpkin, his cat. Since Simpkin sets out on Christmas Eve, the audience hears from him as well as the mice he has trapped for his Christmas dinner. Both cat and mice eventually work together to finish the mayor's fine coat.
