Seriously people, we really shouldn't be wasting our time trying to decide how long it takes a soul to travel to heaven or hell --- or how it gets back into the body when the body is revived by a doctor. We should tackle something important, like how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

The idea that the spirit leaves the body instantly at death is not stated in the Bible. In fact, The Bible says that death is sleep. Is it just sleep for the body, or does the spirit sleep too...in the body, in the grave? The Bible does not say. The spirit may stay in the body for minutes, or hours, before leaving even if the spirit does not sleep. Once gone, the spirit may be recalled if the body is revived. The two times I died, my spirit exited my body some time after my death-not the instant I died-and I wandered around on this plane without going to Heaven, or Hell. There was a light, but I did not approach it. Had I approached it I may have gone instantly to Heaven, or been sent to some holding place such as a Purgatory like area, or whatever. I don't know, because I did not head towards the light. Perhaps that is why I could be revived. Who knows?

A heat attack or critical accident where we are pronounced dead and are revived is a condition where temporary death has already been noted by God.
Therefore, as a human we view this condition as death but God has a totally different view.
Should we become revived in God's eyes we were never dead to begin with.
Remember, the mind still has activity occuring when pronounced dead, the latter is the main reason a time period must be allowed.
Brain activity during this critical time can still provide enough resource to resuscitate/stimulate the person into recovery.
Furthermore, the idea of returning with a vivid vision of Heaven or a bright light can be very deceptive.
I ask the question:
Why would our spirit/soul want to return back to the physical form if it has already ascended?
To be "absent from the body" is to be "present with the Lord" 2Cor. 5:8
The latter verse does not mean nor say we are in Heaven or Paradise as clearly mentioned to the thief on the cross.
This is simply implying we are present before the judgment of God/Jesus.
When we have truly died we will stand before God in reference to the Particular Judgment.
The General Judgment will occur when a new Heaven and a new Earth are created as written in Revelations.
During the latter time our body will reunite with our soul and reside in a heavenly place that only God can make.

No, we were put on this earth to do all we could for each other. Every day is a test as to what we do, how we manage in some awful situations. There are many on the earth that have the capacity and the know how to assist others better like the paramedics for example. Life is precious and we should preserve life, it is given to us for free and what we do now is later judged when it is our time to leave. The people, such as the paramedics, the doctors, they are there to preserve life, such as Saint Luke was a doctor. When peoples heart stop for what ever reason, yes in one way they are dead, but if they are able to be revived with equiptment that was invented by people that were given that gift of inventing things to save lives, then this will be judged favourably because God gives those gifts to those people to be used for the benefit of others. Remember Jesus when He walked the earth, He brought to life those, that were deemed dead, why? because they had more work to do on earth first and learn from that miracle He performed in giving them life once again.
Before one reaches Heaven or Hell, it is decided by God as to where you are going, He is a good and gracious God that will judge fairly, so you see before you go anywhere at all, He will want to see if you are totally repentant or not before sending you anywhere. I suppose it is like a judgement room one goes to first, this is our understanding of it, God does not just say oh well you have been bad down you go and you have been good up you come. I hope this explains a bit more for you, but do contact me if you need to talk more on this ok?

When you die you do not go to heaven or hell right away, you go to a place called "Abrahams busom" which is similar to the catholic idea of Purgatory. There you await the day that Jesus comes back, and this time will be called the "Calling up", or as some know it- the Rapture(not a term used in the bible), and THEN you go to heaven or hell depending on whether or not you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal lord and saviour of your life. Now, with the paramedics thing, no human being is capable of doing a thing on his own, if we were, we could have created ourselves. The Lord is the only reason we exist, can breath, have strength enough to move in the morning, and smarts enough to think and speak, and a heart to love with. The Lord is the reason those people were able to come back. People- The Devil is not your friend, now heres the twist- thin kabout this, When you have a "close call" with death, or tragedy or whatever, the devil NEVERmeans tp just maim you or hurt you, he aims to KILL you, and these "revivals" and "re awakenings" or humans who have died, is only a result of God saying "uh uh satan, you cant have this one" and with a snap of his fingers, you are back, and humans take that as a victory for themselves and theyre medical advances, when really its only God breathing life back into the person, giving you whatever equipement ytou created, and whatever ideas came into your head and whatever strength you had to do it in the first place. i hope this helps.

Says who? By what logic? What if there's a waiting period of 100 years before a person goes to Heaven or Hell? It's an arbitrary period, sure, but it's no less arbitrary than assuming that a person must go straight to Heaven or Hell, otherwise they don't exist.
Now I agree with you, basically, that people go to Heaven or Hell right away --- look up many examples of Near Death Experiences where people have gone to one place or the other and then come back to earth. There are many such experiences recorded --- not everyone has the 'go into the light' experience.
But even though that agrees with your assumption, it's still an assumption, and honestly an arbitrary one at that.

As noted by another answer near death isn't truly dead.
True death is when all activity in the brain ceases and the cells in the body begin to die.
From this state there is no successful or complete resuscitation possible.
In the Bible accounts of Jesus friend Lazarus that died and the little girl that was raised to life from the dead , there is NO mention of any after life or pearly gates or bright light , or a trip to heaven or hell.
Rather the Bible is perfectly correct when it says of the dead ,''in that day their thoughts do perish''
Hell , according to accurate understanding of the Bible is simply the common grave of mankind , and not some place where demons punish the wicked souls of dead humans.
This 'Hellfire' teaching is from pagan sources and is NOT taught in the Bible.
Additionally , the idea that all good people go to heaven when they die , is ALSO NOT taught in the pages of the Bible.

What you have to understand my friend here is that when a person dies, it is the body that dies, and the the body goes niether to hell nor heaven - it is the soul that goes to iether of the two places. Now as for when and how the soul goes we have not been given enough information to draw a detailed picture of the sequence of events involved here. But one of things that is clear and we see happening in scripture is that 1. its possible the soul doesnt just leave your body the very instant you die, and 2. should you have been dead for sometime your soul can return to your body, if it had left, and you can come back to life, not because your soul is in your phiscal body, but because life has been revived in your body. so i guess what i am trying to point out here is that the life force of the body and life force of the soul are diffirent even though they are linked, but the soul has a journey of its own with its own itenary.

Haven't you ever heard of accounts from people who were clinically dead and revived and talked of catching glimpses of Hell or the 'white light' and Heaven? My mother actually knew a man who almost died after a car accident, and was revived after being clinically dead on the operating table. He claims to have seen Hell, and was peering upwards towards Heaven. When he was revived and recovered, he changed his life in the hopes of reversing his eternal fate. Was it a hallucination? Maybe, but he did change his life for the better and he BELIEVED what he saw.

Heaven is where God dwells and no evil is there.
Hell is where God is absent and nothing good is there.
Earth is a place where God and goodness exist but evil exists also and fights against Him.
This is not your real question. Your real question is how could God send me to hell when there are people worse than me. The question is not where you go when you die. The real question is: Will I be with God or alone in Hell. Sin is what separates man from God, but God has made a way to be made righteous again through the Messiah.
