You should charge $5-$10 per hour. Most kids I know who babysit get charged around that price range. Try not to pay anything below that price range, though.

It matters quite a bit on your age, experience, and what time you are babysitting (daytime v. night time)
For someone younger than about 13 yr. old, I would say about $4-5 for daytime, $5-6 for nightime.
From about 13 to 16, I'd say about $6 is reasonable for daytime hours, and definitley at least $6-7 for nightime.
When you have a drivers licence, and can drive the kid to playdates, emergency rooms, etc., you become a valuable comodity, as most 16 yr olds get normal jobs (cashier, etc.). You can ask for up to $10-11 (This is a good amount above minimum wage, and you don't want to drive the family away. If you want more, get a store job.)
It also matters about whether or not this is a regular babysitting job (as in daily.) If it is, even at about 13-14, I'd say around minimum wage in your state. A 16 yr old and above can get at least $12.
Good luck!
