I've found the perfect toddler bed for my son that we both absolutely love. Problem is, it states that its for three years and up. I was under the impression that toddler beds were for basicly 18 months and up, give or take depending on the child. Why would it be for 3 and up? It's a basic toddler bed with rails and its low to the ground, etc. So should I go ahead and get it or what? My judgement is that it would be safe for him but being a mother I don't want to go against an age guideline and my son get hurt. So anyone out there ever go through something similar and what did/would you do?

Being the mother of 2 young kids, I'd advise you to go ahead and get it. Age restrictions on items can be a little silly at times. If you feel your son is ready for a toddler bed, then get it for him. All children are different and grow and develop at different rates, no age guideline can tell you what your child is ready for - only you know for sure.

You know your child. All kids are not the same. The manufacturers play it safe with 3. By that age of the most kids are up to par. My kids vtech game says 6-8 years old but he can handle it. The 3-5 yr old game are to easy. Use your Motherly judgement. My son is 4 and sleeps in a twin bed. I have never had a problem, no falling, etc. I would get the bed.

Age guidelines are just that - guidelines. And sometimes you would wonder about the target market, with the guidelines given.

Many toys specify an age because of small parts - but a bed isn't going to have tiny bits your child could choke on. Are the rails too close for him to get his head through, so he won't get stuck? And have you dressed you child in clothes an age or two ahead on the label, because the right-age label is just too small?

Parenting is all about common sense. We all came into it as beginners, learning as we went along. You judge this bed as safe. Go for it. If it makes you feel more confident, talk to the seller about its suitability first.

If you think it's the right bed for your son, you can get it. Just be warned: If there's any type of problem with that bed and your son gets hurt as a result, you'll have big problems if you try to sue the company. The first thing they'll say is "The box clearly states this bed is for Ages 3 and up, so she assumed all risks when she bought it." You seem to be using sound judgment, but you need to be aware of the potential pitfalls if something goes wrong.

It's perfectly fine. When we had to buy beds for my 4 year old nephew and my 2 year old niece, we bought them the same size beds. My nephew has been sleeping on the top bunk of a bed with rails since he was 2. If you feel like its safe and is low to the ground, then I think you should buy it. My 2 year old niece sleeps in a regular twin bed, the only difference is that we adjusted it by adding rails and setting it close to the ground. That way the bed can grow with the child.

have u asked the sales ppl why it is recommended for ages 3 and up? also those guidelines r in place to protect the company also not just ur child. u could also call the company and ask them why. i thought toddler meant 2 and up but that is just my opinion. i have purchased other items for my daughter when she was younger that were supposed to be for older children, not by a lot of age difference. u didn't state how old he is. i would think if he can get in and out of it w/o any hardship go ahead, as long as u both feel comfortable about it.

I'd go ahead and get it,,
They are fine for younger kids, both mine were in toddler beds by age 2,
And the reason they put those guidelines is because IF a child does get hurt, they don't want you turning around and sueing them

If he won't get caught in the rails, I would go ahead and get it for him. I think they are designed for ages 3 and up because children younger than that are too small and might get hurt by the rails. My daughter is 22 months old and she is fine sleeping in a regular bed.

If its low to the ground and you think its fine-get it. Use a guard rail like you can buy in Walmart or Target etc that keeps him from rolling out thats all. Then get rid of it in a year or so. Then he can be a big boy but you know he'll be "in" bed and safe.
