But only NOW make it a big issue that they promise to 'fix'?

Could this whole immigration thing be just a big political ploy by the GOP to recover from their defeat in 2006?

What you say is true, politics have now become a big game of lies, Democrat or Republican it is all the same vote for who you want to, it will not make any difference. They are all liars, once in office anything they promised will go out the window. Our borders will stay open, Illegals will continue to enter our country. The only way to stop this from continuing is for the people to go to the streets and revolt against our government, and pull them out of office by the scruff of their necks.

illegal immigration has been a problem for a LOT longer than 12 years.. and it's not just a GOP problem.. politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle have turned a blind eye to this issue for too long.. and i don't think anyone 25 years ago knew that it would become the problem that we face today.. stop making this a party line issue... at least the GOP are wanting to finally do something about it... and stop ignoring it.

its another case of trying to push blame on the democrats for everything wrong with the country under total neocon control for 6 years under bush

anways, all thier plans put forward wont do anything

the "fence" will never get built

the borders will remain porous

they will not lock up business owners that hire illegals (even though that is the ONLY effective way of stopping illegal immigration

they will NOT come here if there are no jobs that will hire them and the ones that are here will go home (read how President Eisenhower cured the problem in the 1950's)

In many ways it is. Not all of the GOP even support it. George Bush wants amnesty! Only some do. There is just not enough support behind it. Now some like Mitt Romney and Duncan Hunter tout it, but only in order to advance their own cause. If they are elected they might renege their promises.

It's a wedge issue designed to play upon many Americans racism and xenophobia and to appeal to blue-collar displaced union workers who traditionally support the Democrats. It'll fire up some in their white-male white collar base but the issue doesn't resonate with most Americans and doesn't rank all that close to issues like Iraq, Health Care and Economy/Jobs.

Kind of like the democrats use of global warming?
Fact: according to recorded temperatures over the past 100 years earths average temperature has risen less than 1 degree F. This data states that the temperature may fluctuate but has not been to far away from it's average.
In light of this the democratic party still says our earth is overheating and it's because of us.

We could ask the same thing about global warming, why didn't Gore do something about it when he was VP? Far as illegal immigration is concerned, we also have Democrats that have little or no reason to stop it in congress.

The GOP, like the Dems, are split on this issue. It doesn't go by party lines.
