You don't have to spend money on *your* meals (I can't either), but you can do portion control, cut out the fat you use to cook your meals in (use non stick spray or a tiny dollop of olive oil instead of butter or margarine) and adopt more fruits and veggies in your life style. Make a vegetarian meal one evening (veggie stir fry with whole wheat pasta). Take more fruits and veggies for snacks for work. Substitute more fresh or frozen veggies for canned, etc. Cut out the sugary cereal and use oatmeal with fresh fruit or yogurt. Stop the junk food and opt for healthier snacks like peanut butter and celery or apples and yogurt. BUT, still indulge a little buy a candy bar to share, buy some ice cream to share. Have the kids pick a new veggie to try and experiment with.
Overhaul your recipe book too! Overhaul the recipes your family loves and find new ones to try! My family loves beef and broccoli stir fry and grilled shrimp (I know that won't work for you, lol). Two other things my kiddies GOBBLE up is roasted asparagus and cinnamon butternut squash with apples. You won't know if they like it until they try it!

18 Days ago I started something called "juice fasting" Basically only have 32-64oz of fresh fruit and veggies through a juicer. Im doing a 30 day run with it. Some people do more some people do less. After the first week cravings go away. The juice is sweet and Ive lost about 22.5 pounds and still have 12 days left to go. I started at 177lbs and now im 154.5lbs. It sounds difficult and can be difficult watching people eat but the results are amazing. I take pics everyday and when I compare the first to the most recent im amazed. Ive actually saved money on this diet since I only buy fruit n veggies so it should help out on your money situation. I put some links at the bottom that might help out
Oh also you get every nutriet you need and you wont gain back unless you eat a ton of food because you always have a calorie intake.(This also dtoxes your system) - The average person has 6-7 pounds of impacted fecen in them along with living parasites

Cut out all junk foods (candy, potato chips, soda pop, fast foods, etc.). This will not cost you anything, and in fact it will save you money. If you are not able or willing to eliminate all junk foods, then at least restrict the amount that you purchase and consume.
The money you save by cutting out or down on junk foods will better allow you to buy healthier foods.
Beans are relatively inexpensive, and there are probably lots of ways you can prepare them (soups, etc.). Of course vegetables and fruits are essential as well as whole grains like brown rice. Opt for hot cereals like oatmeal instead of cold cereals that are usually loaded with sugar.
Of course if you or your children have any dietary restrictions you will want to keep that in mind when you plan your meals.
Use coupons when you can, and comparison shop. Also, keep a watch out for sales, and buy in bulk when you can.
Check out some books and or magazines that have healthy eating tips. Of course you will have to be careful because not all advice on healthy eating is good, but you just have to use your best judgment in assessing what is good for you and what is not. Your local library may have books or magazines you can look at, if you are not able to buy the books and magazines from a book store.

hmmm... I would say that this is a fairly simple. no fried foods, no fast food. start grilling and baking. and eat the four food groups. if you are hungry for a snack... eat fruit or veggies... cut out all the ranch that tastes so good all over the veggies. no chips and greasy food. eating healthy is not as tasty as eating well.
Moderation is key. Eat slower for your meals so your tummy has a chance to tell you that you are full (takes about 15 minutes for your tummy to tell you). easy trick to eating less... drink 1-2 full glasses of water before you eat.
Oh yeah... dont forget to exercise, it has a funny way of telling your body to eat better. you will find that you will start craving fruits, vegetables... and healthy food. your body is smart like that.

Exercises, eat in moderation, and eat natural foods that are chemically saturated(the body has a harder time breaking these down, therefore they tend to hang on around the belly area) Good fixens 2 ya!

Pulses; beans; rice. I was brought up on them. They are very cheap and taste good and are full of good things.
Don't buy junk food such as confectionary, cakes and biscuits. They are generally unhealthy, full of calories and have little nutrional value. (and probably costing you more than you think).
Keep in stock a range of herbs and spices, they can liven up any meal. Switch to semiskimmed milk and low fat products.
If you can, involve your children in the meal choosing and preparation. Baking things like flapjack is easy, it's also quite good for you depending on what you put in it.

Don't make resolutions. If you're going to do something, just do it. My wife's and my diet consists of only turkey, chicken, and seafood products, low carbs on weekdays, plenty of water, and at least three work outs per week. Our cheat days are Sat. and Sun. when we might have ice cream and perhaps buscuits for breakfast. Ignore the dates. Just do what you need to do.
