I have a 11 year old daughter who really wants a job. Of course it would be for only two to three hours after school, and it would be her own buisness. She would be doing things like :dog walking;selling cakes and cards and other simple things. She would be working around where she lives and will have adult supervision most of the time. She is very responsible, trusworthy and mature for her age.
SO SHOULD I LET HER TRY???????????

when i was 11 i worked as a mother's helper for neighbors and family friends. i wasn't old enough to babysit according to my mom, so i would take care of the kids while their parents were around the house. i would entertain the kids, change their diapers, make their lunch or whatever, while the mother wrapped christmas presents, cleaned the house, mowed the lawn, packed for a vacation or whatever. of course i charged $.50 an hour and i'm sure a mom would pay more than that these days. if your daughter wants to try something like this or one of your other suggestions until she's old enough to babysit or get a paper route or something i say go for it! having a little job is a great way to learn about money. she will be earning a little money, she will learn about saving some, and spending some, and knowing how much things cost, and how it feels to buy something when you worked for every dollar. i'll bet she would take much better care of something if she bought it with her own money. go for it! and good luck to her!

It is a bit young to start that, but if you think she might be ready, I'd give her some space and let her try out new things and let her get an understanding of the world. At 11, most kids do know what they are doing and they have an understanding of right and wrong. As always, you should watch her closely but I would recommend against smothering.

Sure why not? Make it a learning thing for her. She needs to be responsible by keeping track of money and being on time just like a real job. If she gets too overwhelmed don't punish her for it. Just make a lesson learned about life. It's always good to teach children about responsibilities! Tell her to have fun! Good Luck!

Im 12, And my mum hasen't let me dog-walk yet, you also sometimes need a licence to start your own buisness, im not sure, but there are alot of weird people out there that might invite her in and rape/harm/abuse her, and tell her to keep quiet about it and not tell you otherwise they'll kill her or something, I say don't. Wait until shes in at least year 8, Let her dog-walk for friends, I dog walk my friends mums 2 labs for 2x a week £5, Its not as if shes in uni and needs the money to clear debts or anything. :)

Why would you not let her? Set ground rules - like she has to stop if it interferes with school. Maybe open a savings account and a specific percentage of what money she makes has to go into it so she starts to understand about saving money and how it can be better than spending it immediately.

Just make sure that she doesn't forget to be a kid and have fun, too.

Yes, Let her try! She will gain lots of experience by running her own business, she will realize that it takes money to make money and that everything has an expense. Not a better way to teach a kid the value of a dollar

Sure. It is never too early for a child to start learning about earning, spending and saving money. Be sure to teach her about the different aspects, benefits and drawbacks to saving and spending, and teach her how to keep track of her earnings and avoid spending more than she makes. She will thank you for it in the future!!

Safety first, though. Make sure she has adult supervision.

Encourage your kids to take on as much responsibility as they feel they can handle. You will be better equipping them for adulthood.

Yes. With adult supervision ALL the time, not just some of the time. Not because she's not trustworthy, but because others aren't.
