Because the diviners (fortune-tellers, psychics, mediums) of the time were associated with the competing priesthoods of foreign gods. The priests of the Hebrew God wanted to keep their flock from straying, or from seeking answers outside of their religion. It was all about control, and quelling competition. The Old Testament writers warned their followers to stay away from the competition precisely because they believed in it -- why else would they have been perceived as a threat?
Interestingly enough, while the Old Testament forbids Astrology, in the New Testament we find a group of Pagan Astrologers (the Magi) discovered the time and place of Christ's birth through Astrology (the "star" of Bethlehem.)

specific, precisely what the 1st answerer reported. and likewise, alot of fortune tellers(greater advantageous than ninety% of them) are in basic terms in it for the money and the attention, they actually dont be responsive to a thank you to tell fortunes, they cant quite tell your destiny, you're able to to boot in basic terms pass to a chinese language restaraunt and crack open a fortune cookie, you will get the comparable stunning reliability that a fortune teller supply you, fortune tellers have not any physchic present, you are the only one that can rather variety your destiny and you are the only one that can settle on and tell your destiny no person else can.

For our own good? Ever heard about Satan who transforms himself into an angel of light, in order to deceive?
The acknowledgement of the existence of fortune-tellers, psychics and those who communicate with the dead is not a positive acknowledgement - It's NEGATIVE. Good vs Evil.
Trouble is, people are so gullible, so naive, so assured of their own intelligence that they don't even know what is truth and what is lie.

Dear one of the Lord,
Very interesting question! :-) I acknowledge them--and even acknowledge their deceptive "power". But remember--their "power" *is* deceptive. It is not the Power that belongs to the Lord God Almighty--Maker of Heaven and earth. All true Power is the Lords.
The reason we are told to stay away from them is that they open us up to demonic attack. Furthermore, the evil one will only tell us things (through them) that are somehow twisted, that will draw us away from the Lord, or things that are pure evil. The Bible calls him the father of all lies and evil. We are told in the Bible not to seek to "know" evil. We are told to seek to know the Lord.
The Bible says that in the last days people will "have the essence of godliness but refuse to let it (Him/God) be a power." (2 Timothy 3:5.) If we believe that these people have *real* power (in and of themselves) we deny God's Power--it puts Him under them--since He tells us to have no other gods. (1st commandment). When we go to them instead of God, we've mis-placed our trust/faith.
The Lord, who inspired the Word, wrote these things in the Bible for our own protection--because He loves each of us. Either we trust completely in Him--or we don't. If we, as His children, want His *full* protection--we must play by His rules (obey Him).
The Word says, "Be careful or you will be deceived and turn and serve other gods and worship them. Then the Lord will get very angry with you..." (Deuteronomy 11:16 &ff) Also see: "Isaiah 65:11 & ff "But you who forsake the Lord, forget My holy mountain, and prepare a table for the god of fortune and offer full cups of spiced wine to the goddess of destiny--I will destine you to the sword, so that all of you will bow down to be slaughtered... you did what I judge to be evil."
"Whether therefore you eat or drink or whatsoever you do--do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31) Do the fortune tellers glorify God? No. God also acknowledges sin--does that mean we should seek it out? Again, no. Sin doesn't glorify God.
Question: What is the difference between a Prophet of God and a psychic/fortune teller? The difference is whose servant each is.
I wrote more about your question in a blog (see link below--if it doesn't come up, please refresh):
I pray that our dear Lord gives you His discernment in this area. May He bless you abundantly and show Himself to you in ways that you see Him clearly and believe--and in believing you give your heart and life to Him for all eternity. In Jesus name I pray. (Ephesians 1:17-19)
I Love you, In Christ, oooooolala! (Sorry this is so long...)

Fortune Tellers and Psychics are real... Just many of them are Charlatans. Some are honest and qualified though. The FBI uses these people sometimes.

YEs, God acknowledged them as EVIL< WICKED< and said to stay away from them. This doenst seem to take much stretch of the imagination to get this message. God wouldnt tell us to stay away from good things, only bad things. Just like any normal parent woudl do their very own child. We are Gods children, and He wants to protect us.
Your attitude seems to be if they are false, so what?
Well, because this ppl speak from the lies of the devil, and will teach things contrary to the word of God, and lead into further deception and evil things, way much more, even often into satan worship. They can seem so real and so true, and it is easy for someone to believe the things they say, unless they know God word and are aware of the evil. A true Christian would never so see one of those kinds of ppl.
SO, the ones that are going dont know Gods truths and are so easily misled, without even knowing it
SO < God says NO to this, as He does anything that will lead us into harm, lies, deception, and put us on the path to hell, even tho many arent even aware of it. You can hear horror stories of ppl in church today, that went to fortune tellers and psychics before they knew God, and the ruin it brought them.
This is of the devil, whether anyone knows it or not. Thats why to be in Gods full protection, we must love Him, believe Him, and trust Him, and live the way He tells us to live, to be safe and fully protected by Him. But its a choice. God forces noone to love Him, believe in Him, or obey Him
BUt the choices we make have consequences. They can be either wonderful or hellfire, depending on the choices we each must make.
Glad you asked this , so it can be addresseed, I just pray that God will give you a heart to let you believe the things of God.
REmember He is a loving God, eager to accept and forgive you on all things.
God bless you.

Yes, God acknowledged fortune-tellers and pshchics and that's why God told us to stay away from them.
When the predition comes from God it is permanent and will last forever. God's Word never comes back void.
When it comes from fortune-tellers and pshchics they false and will never last.
God created us and wants for us to be dependent on Him. We will never have to guess when, how, or will it happen when we get it straight from God.
God tells me to stay away from fortune-tellers and psychics and I listen to Him. I pray you are not acknowleging them and pray that you will listen to what God says about them.

You are right: God acknowledges them and tells us to stay away from them.
They are real according to the Bible. Christians who believe in the Bible and have read this warning in the Bible should know that fortune-tellers, mediums, witches, spirits, etc... are true.
